Three CNN Employees Resign Over Retracted Story on Russia Ties

Three CNN employees have handed in their resignations over a retracted story linking President Trump to Russia, the network announced Monday.

Thomas Frank, who wrote the story in question; Eric Lichtblau, an editor in the unit; and Lex Haris, who oversaw the unit, have all left CNN.

“In the aftermath of the retraction of a story published on CNN.com, CNN has accepted the resignation of the employees involved in the story’s publication,” a network spokesperson said in a statement Monday.

On Thursday, CNN investigative reporter Thomas Frank published a report involving an investigation of a Russian investment fund with possible ties to several Trump associates.

Not clear whether they resigned in protest, or "resigned" as punishment. NT enough Jun 2017 #7

Scaramucci poo pooed it, so it went away (as did three serious journalists). Time to stop watching CNN.

Haven't watched them regularly in a decade plus.

It's NOT the time to start watching them NOW, especially with this story out there.

by every CNN talkinghead from morning, noon, to night while literal swooning coverage of the greatest liar ever to appear in my lifetime.

No retraction. No apologies to Hillary Clinton or any other Clinton aide they slandered unjustifiably.

One story - on its SITE, ffs - that's TRUE about Trump:Trump gets butthurt and ally comes out shouting. and CNN retracts story and APOLOGIZES.

Once again, people, our 'watchdog' media is a sad little lapdog for the GOP. Time to recognize CNN for the CONNING 'News' Network it's become and not believe a single piece of shit 'news' they propagate.

CNN = Fox "News" Channel lite.

“In a staff meeting Monday afternoon, investigative unit members were told that the retraction did not mean the facts of the story were necessarily wrong,” Stelter reported. “Rather, it meant that “the story wasn’t solid enough to publish as-is,” one of the people briefed on the investigation said.”

“No one should publish any content involving Russia without coming to me and Jason first,” CNNMoney executive editor Rich Barbieri said in an email to staff over the weekend, referring to Jason Farkas, a CNN vice president. BuzzFeed was first to report on the email, which said the changes will apply “to social, video, editorial, and MoneyStream. No exceptions.”

So far, CNN hasn’t offered any details why the report was pulled, other than it reportedly did not go through the network’s rigorous editorial processes. Frank’s story reported that the Senate Intelligence Committee was investigating a “$10 billion Russian investment fund whose chief executive met with a member of President Donald Trump’s transition team four days before Trump’s inauguration.”
The story was posted on Thursday night, but didn’t receive any air time on CNN, according to Stelter. By Friday, the story was removed from the website and scrubbed from the network’s social media accounts, replaced with an editor’s note noting the piece “did not meet CNN’s editorial standards and has been retracted.”

CNN also apologized to Anthony Scaramucci, an adviser to Trump during the presidential campaign and a member of his transition team’s executive committee, who was mentioned in the story as having met Kirill Dmitriev, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) that the network said is overseen by Vnesheconombank, a state-run bank that is currently under U.S. sanctions. A spokesperson for the RDIF told Sputnik News, a state-run Russian news channel, that the fund is not a part of the bank."

So apparently the story was pulled because it was based on just one source, had not gone through editorial channels but it appears probably much of the story is correct, although technical detail may have been off regarding the Russian Fund's ownership?

Remember, the gawker versus Hulk Hogan was big money winning over a simple tabloid news website.

Regardless of whatever evidentiary, or ethically challenged support, big money torted a news co out of existence.

Now, I believe this is a major repercussion of Mister Teal being in the Trump administration
