Yes, I see your point. The republican dream of no safety net at all, if enacted, will of necessity bring about work houses and work farms. Since all the farm labor will have dried up it will seem like a perfect idea to them. They would bring back slavery if they could, so they will do everything/anything short of it. Aristocracy will follow in due course.
