Why the process for passing the AHCA bill is a form of fascism. And it's here to stay.

Fascism depends on a compliant legislature to provide legitimacy for its acts. By using the legislature to bypass traditional checks and balances, the autocrat get a facade of "legitimacy" for his agenda. The tactics to pass TrumpCare are not a one-off. The secrecy (especially cutting out their "moderates&quot , the threat of retaliation by the party, and the speed are typically the way a one-party state provides the autocrat with a semblance of democracy.

When we look at all the actions of the Republican party, we can see the building of a one-party state: voter suppression, gerrymandering, use of extremist groups to provide voter base. All they needed was an autocrat to provide the necessary focal point of one man who can fix everything.

In Trump they got their autocrat.

Trump is facing a life or death situation with the Russian investigation. Like a cornered rat, he will fight to the end. One of the standard steps taken by an autocrat to solidify power in the face of dissent is war. Trump has been busy creating enemies for the U.S. internally and externally. His tweet about Syria today positing "possible preparation" for gas attacks by the Assad regime sets the stage for him to call for more powers to act without restraints from the legislature or judiciary.

And the legislature is going to give it to him.

False "facts" like no Medicaid cuts, denial that it isn't all behind closed doors by blaming Democrats for not collaborating, scapegoating, blaming ordinary people for lacking healthcare, blackmailing own partymembers to support the bill, delegitimization of any opposition - media, CBO, Democrats - all looking very fascist. What is good is that the will have to own it. The best thing will be if they lose the vote so Trump gets the political fallout without moving the bill forward.

a one-party congress to cover his power grabs.

In fact, he will use any backlash from Trumpcare to further strike terror into the republicans.

Trumpism is a variant of National Socialism but it is heavy on the nationalism and light on the socialism.
