Balkanization and gay wedding cakes
Now that the Supreme Court has decided to hear the gay wedding cake case, we might look back at the Colorado ruling involving the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act (CADA) in particular how discrimination helps the balkanization of our nation.
"CADA creates a hospitable environment for all consumers by preventing discrimination on the basis of certain characteristics, including sexual orientation. In doing so, it prevents the economic and social balkanization prevalent when businesses decide to serve only their own "kind," and ensures that the goods and services provided by public accommodations are available to all of the state's citizens."

Wikipedia describes Balkanization:
"Balkanization is a geopolitical term, originally used to describe the process of fragmentation or division of a region or state into smaller regions or states that are often hostile or uncooperative with one another."

For instance, in the Balkans, a business might say, you're a Serb so I won't serve you. Is that what we want in America? The Wikipedia article also notes that Balkanization is associated with the disintegration of a society or nation. Hmm. That says something about where our nation is headed.
