Again people are fighting over the way things are and not the way it will be.
Corporations are already referring to "gig" placements not jobs.

(5,499 posts)If they want to offer health insurance. Think of the HR savings if a big company didn't have to offer insurance. It would be cheaper to give $$ to employees to go find their own coverage.
I've always disliked the idea of having my insurance coverage through my employer. I get that it's a benifit. But it would be better if we ended the link between jobs and insurance coverage. If people had to go out and buy insurance, I think the overall price would have to go down.
This is the reason so many people are unrealistic about what it costs, etc. And less likely to go into business for themselves

(10,303 posts)It removes the employer mandate under ACA. ACA defined full time employee as one who worked 30 hours.
As it stands, my wife is working a 30 hour week (15 hours on Sat & Sun). The ACA guaranteed her health insurance. If the employer mandate is terminated, her employer can decide to revert back to the old plan and cover only full time employees working 35 + hours a week. Thus AHCA strips her of health coverage from her employer under her present working arrangement.
Automation will get rid of many jobs. Taking orders at McDonalds? There's a terminal for that. Customer Service on the phone? There's artificial intelligence for that. Jobs will require more skill and training.
