Just in time for the 4th of July long weekend, folks can finally throw off their religion-based restrictions that have been around for just about ever and stop in to their local liquor stores on Sunday.
Now, if they'll get rid of the laws that prohibit buying cars, boats and other vehicles on Sunday, the state will finally have entered the 21st century and shed it's "blue law" restrictions. No such restrictions have existed on guns, though, so shopping for your semi-auto rifle you could do on Sunday, as long as you already had the car.
It's been weird about Sunday business restrictions for far too long.

(146,317 posts)I suppose that's next, but it's being fought by the liquor store owners. Heck, we still have some towns that only allow liquor sales in "municipal" liquor stores. Those city owned stores use the profits to supplement their tax revenues.
There are even a few "municipal" bars, here and there, although they're becoming dinosaurs, since people can just drive to the next town and skip going to those.

(6,476 posts)competition has significantly lowered prices here-I'd say as much as 15-20% since grocery stories have begun selling wine

(146,317 posts)There are still liquor stores around, though. They offer a larger selection of products and also sell kegs and other stuff. The mom and pop liquor stores are long since gone.
Minnesota seemed really strange when I first moved here, but I've gotten used to it.
I cannot for the life of me, though, understand the ban on car sales on Sundays. That makes no sense whatsoever to me. People go car-shopping on weekends. I'd think the car dealers would have pushed Sunday sales through long ago. You can go and walk around the lot, of course, but there's nobody there to talk to. Odd as heck.

(8,419 posts)AZ used to have a law with no sales on Sunday prior to noon. But I believe that changed once the Cardinals (NFL) moved to town.
Law had some unintended consequences, for example, if you were going to the river on Sunday you made a large liquor buy on Saturday night. So after drinking too much on Saturday you would go out and buy more beer!
