Yes, what Trump tweeted today is appalling and debases the office of the presidency, even more than he already has. However, I can't help but wonder if this isn't some contrived way of sucking the air out of the news cycle to divert attention from something bigger behind the scenes. Perhaps I'm giving President Orange Julius too much credit, but it seems convenient, considering all of the bigger issues currently ongoing (i.e. The wealthcare bill in the senate, Pruit at the EPA approving a pesticide that causes birth defects, the ongoing Syria issue)

(1,565 posts)ALWAYS a distraction from something when he goes unhinged.
I'm just not sure he intends it as a distraction or if it's just a release valve for all the pressure and ego bruises he takes every day.

(967 posts)His feelers were hurt when he watched this morning and reacted. People are still going after Trumpcare.

(16,875 posts)My point was this: what do you think is going to get broader coverage tonight in the news? The fact that Trumplethinskin showed his true colors yet again, or that the GOP, led by McConnell, is drawing up a bill that will dole out millions to the holdout senator's states in an attempt to dismantle the ACA?

(967 posts)You allowed me to do that, simply. Thank-you. We were having this conversation an hour or so, before I read your post. My fellow Democrat and I were pondering distraction? And also how we are told we are being distracted while we are quite capable of thinking about the number of issues Trump and Republicans are throwing at us. It is a lot.
He did state those not in all this, only hear this stuff. Not the important issues. So, maybe you are right. But certainly not with the people actively involved in being informed.
So, I do get it.

(16,875 posts)We, as liberals, must call out his vicious misogyny while at the same time resisting the moves that are taking place that would dismantle our social safety nets and our very Republic. That sounds grandiose, but that's sadly where we find ourselves today.
Thanks for your comments pirateshipdude! Hope you have a great day!

(3,985 posts)Does anyone doubt for a moment the primaries were possibly compromised by MANY hands? My take is that Trump was the only candidate sufficiently compromised For the Puppet Presidency. It won't surprise me if we find that Trump is just a willing pawn. Did he make a deal with Putin/GOP/Theocrats?
At some point, Mueller et al will have to decide when to stop digging and take action because the Trump/GOP/Zealots webs of potential crimes and political collusion could go back a very long time with a cast of hundreds.
What I really wonder is whether the Judicial Branch will adhere to the law or sabotage Mueller's investigation.

(13,468 posts)I can't believe he plots any of it, he is way too crazy and stupid.
I will be glad if the media gloves really come off and he is no longer normalized. The most important issue right now is healthcare, but pointing out that this man is not competent to be President is important too.

(10,749 posts)Let's see, this week they destroyed clean water, approved pesticides, reduced UN Peacekeeping, probably had nothing to do with Syrians not using chemical weapons, had a major dust-up in the WH between Tillerson and the Keystone Kops, failed to destroy healthcare, had the NRA promote a second civil war. What am I missing?
And it's only Thursday.
