1. Maybe you don't remember Watergate. I do. And the stuff the GOP was saying then

was almost exactly the same as what we are hearing now. Check out this 1973 column by Art Buchwald:

and I remember that the tapes were the turning point that showed Nixon involved in everything. That was when enough of the GOP pealed off and realized the game was up.

4. We are actually much farther along in time. From the Watergate break-in

to Nixon's resignation was over two years. We're only six months in and the fecal matter is already impacting the airfoils. I don't know what will happen or when, but Trump seems to be coming so unglued so fast that he'll probably spill the beans on himself during an early-morning Twitter rant. And the sooner the better.

7. Actually, the FBI, CIA, NSA have been on it for a year and a half.

The press was on it at just about the same time but it didn't get covered much, though it was covered a lot more than Watergate was, except in the WaPo.

6. Everything changed with Reagan though

I've never admired the GOP but they were respectable - even patriotic - at one time.

But that was all over with Ronald Reagan. That was when they realized it didn't matter who was "president" just any old broken down 2-bit actor would do. Just feed him the lines and tell where to stand. All the power-brokering happened behind closed doors and Reagan had virtually nothing to do with any of it.

I'm glad my grandfather and dad are no longer around to see this party in action. They proudly voted Republican their entire lives but they're probably turning in their graves now. I know I'll never vote for a Republican, I've seen to much of what they've done and what they're planning to do. They've all sold their souls to the devil.

10. I read Art Buchwald columns voraciously during Watergate

and clipped them from the paper. With time there were actually some honorable Republicans on that committee who did rise and put the welfare of the country above all else. I do not foresee any R's like Sam Irvin or Howard Baker on the scene.

11. That's pretty impressive - those "non-aggressive" excuses are really being repeated now

Though for it to be a true match, I think we'd need a few more confrontational ones like:

You're just repeating Viet Cong propaganda. I believe in America, and so does my president.

You goddam commie, you want to bring this country to ruin with your lies. Do you want our president to lose face in front of the Chinese?

This is a plot to make the president look bad, by the secret pedophiles who kidnap children and kill them to feast on their bone marrow.

They use their media to assassinate real news. They use their schools to teach children that their president is another Hitler. They use their movie stars and singers and comedy shows and award shows to repeat their narrative over and over again. And then they use their ex-president to endorse “the resistance.”

All to make them march. Make them protest. Make them scream racism and sexism and xenophobia and homophobia. To smash windows, burn cars, shut down interstates and airports, bully and terrorize the law-abiding — until the only option left is for the police to do their jobs and stop the madness.

And when that happens, they’ll use it as an excuse for their outrage. The only way we stop this, the only way we save our country and our freedom, is to fight this violence of lies with the clenched fist of truth.
