The top trend of twitter???
Surly not just because they called out the racist reddit user of the trump wrestling tweet?

No just an internet tough guy. The speculation out on Twitter is that a lawyer advised the apology.

(49,034 posts)Basically, Breitbart and other RW media trolls were unhappy about the source of Trump's meme being discovered, unhappier still when the Reddit user apologized for his behavior (thus making Trump look even worse), and are now trying to make CNN the villain.

(24,128 posts)Intriguing. I know the video was on Reddit, yet according to the White House (via Kaczynski), the video was not "pulled from Reddit."
Has anyone figured out who gave it to Trump?

This story would have been forgotten about tomorrow. Now they are tweeting the hell out of it to avenge their follow altright troll's honor. This now puts this hansassholesolo dude in a position where he may have to reveal himself just to put this story down. Seems counterintuitive.

In addition, he said his statement could serve as an example to others not to do the same."

It's worrisome to see a professional news outfit behaving like this. I'm not going to ignore it just because I disagree with that redditor's satire/speech. It honestly sounds like something a third world despot would say after their political prisoner apologized.

(4,734 posts)CNN simply stated they reserve the right to publish the name if the person does something newsworthy like continuing to post racist shit. If the poster wants notoriety then no harm!
Shandris
(3,447 posts)It's very cut and dried. Minimizing it with 'simply' is myopic. We don't even want to PRETEND to support an idea like this. If you can't see how this will go over with people, you R.E.A.L.L.Y. need out of the bubble.
Not to mention the reporter flipflopped on his story the second it was pointed out. Anyone paying attention should at least not ~defend~ their action, if you don't choose to condemn it.

Meh, I don't care enough to continue this idiocy. The question was asked, I provided the answer. Fin.
EDIT: Good Christ I just saw what he actually typed. Okay, our people don't say that stuff to the Nazi's, that's for sure. Detestable individual, this one. But we -still- don't want a precedent set where we have news organizations doxxing people for what they say, as you never know when what you say will no longer be 'allowed'.

(4,484 posts)I've never tried to hide my identity. I also try and be nice to people and even when I word things in a very, very strong way, I am willing to stand by those things. That's because I'm not a troll.
Doxing is not illegal. It may be a lot of things, but it isn't illegal.

Do you think people, on either side of the aisle, should be allowed to spew anonymous hate and try to cause mental anguish for other human beings as a source of personal pleasure?
Shandris
(3,447 posts)Nor is anyone defending this guy. I'm pointing out that such a precedent can and will be deployed against us at some point, so getting behind it now is not a smart move. You don't expose a future, unending, critical weakness for the joy of smiting a goddamn 15 year old kid.
"Do you think people..." Do you think any 'authority' (lol) will be able to guarantee it can never be subverted to perpetuate it from an institutional level? If you can't answer 'yes', then I can't answer 'no', because no matter how lurid the words, the words of individual powerless people are nothing compared to institutional power with a standing army and a literal shadow army of intelligence agents.
musicblind
(4,484 posts)In fact, that's what most of the deplorable on twitter are claiming.
I don't want to smite this individual person. I want to end anonymous trolling on either side of the aisle. We saw awful trolling during the primaries from the far left as well. People should not be allowed to try and anonymously troll other people, regardless of their political party.
The personality of a troll is not a good thing. Trolling and psychopathic tendencies are co-related: [link:http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/climate_desk/2014/02/internet_troll_personality_study_machiavellianism_narcissism_psychopathy.html|
As for his age, do you have any source for that aside from rumors started by a 4chan user? Oh, and then he was a 15-year-old LGBT supporter. Now Twitter users are saying he is a 15-year-old LGBT youth. I'm not saying that claim isn't true, but I'll wait until a mainstream news outlet makes it.
And you need to reword the last paragraph a bit because it is very confusing, the way it is written. It sounds like you're saying that you can't answer my question unless I can answer your unrelated question about a slippery slope fallacy that involves armies? Because, if I understand you correctly, that IS a slippery slope fallacy. Any tool can be a weapon if you hold it right.

(7,006 posts)Did anyone see the bait and switch here? Tomorrow's story was going to be about how the CNN Video Maker Apologized RIGHTFULLY (who cares how it was made to be done --- because personally, we don't) and Trump COMPLETELY walking pass a waiting Motorcade at the tarmac right by the plane and having to be redirected back to the motorcade. Full Dementia Moment in FULL DISPLAY.
GET IT NOW....
Thus, this non-story, non-story had to be the new "trend" on Twitter. The timing - less than three hours after the video of Trump's newest Dementia moment was going viral.
Look, anyone threatening or making a video used to threaten a NEWS ORGANIZATION should expect to be found out. Point, Blank, Period. News + Investigative Journalism. They go hand and hand.
However, this BS CRAPOLA about CNN finding the Reddit Video Maker of the threat on their NETWORK, the person apologizing, and CNN telling the individual before doing so --- if they did it again, they would reveal the source -- is to be expected. They are a NEWS ORGANIZATION who hire INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISTS.
Now Trump's Dementia moment leading ever so closer to #25thAmendmentNow is being buried to prop up a RACIST INDIVIDUAL WHO MADE A THREATENING VIDEO TARGETING A NEWS ORGANIZATION. Seriously? Get a grip people and get focused. This is BS. Trump's Dementia moment in time, IS NOT.

Trump fans howl blackmail after CNN finds Redditor who created presidents wrestling meme

CNN came under fire late Tuesday after the Reddit user who claimed credit for the tweet by President Donald Trump issued an apology as well as other offensive things hes posted online.
CNNs Andrew Kaczynski explains the research the staff that led to his Facebook page. At no time did they publish the mans identity as they deemed his apology was sincere.
However, its the line that appears next that has sent Trump supporters over the cliff and claiming blackmail and doxing a practice of revealing peoples private information publicly so physical attacks can be made. CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change, Kaczynski wrote.
This line is being misinterpreted. It was intended only to mean we made no agreement w/the man about his identity, Kaczynski wrote on Twitter Tuesday night.
It was also reported that the man was 15 years old, which Kaczynski also revealed was not true.
HanAs*holeSolo reached out to Kaczynski via phone on Wednesday and issued the statement, I am in total agreement with your statement. I was not threatened in anyway.

(18,641 posts)It was so long and warned others of doing similar things but the main oddity was CNN's comment that they were withholding the identity of the poster because of this apology but they reserved the right to reveal it if this changed.
That does sound like blackmail so of course the Trumpistas jumped on it.
It wasn't wise for CNN to say they would only keep the identity secret if the poster continued to appease them.
