McCONnell knew and pointedly prevented Obama's feds from informing the state Electoral Commissions about the hacking and other activities.

(3,335 posts)Do these accounts from CNN about death threats and the WH phone calls seem plausible? I've seen enough of their behavior, (both the Trump Regime and his followers), to believe that these things are real.
Secondly, we have had multiple reports from multiple news stations that Kushner had been meeting and not disclosing with several Russian officials, he spent a weekend on an island with them, (along with Bannon), he tried to set up a secret back channel, and so on, plus he's hired not one, but two high profile criminal defense attorneys.
And as far as Bannon goes, his goal is to completely disrupt and change the face of our democracy, I wouldn't put anything past that one.
During the Watergate scandal, everyone thought it was a whole lot to do about nothing and nothing was going to happen, until they arrested 43 people.

(33,643 posts)CNN is going to be very careful right now about dotting their i's, etc. Even if they THINK they have 'real' transcripts, they're going to want to go WAAAAAAAY deep on the whole 'confirmation they're legit' aspect of things.
A CNN exec surreptitiously letting it be know through some rando blogger that they 'have transcripts' is actually a rather smart move in this circumstance. Gauge what the 'reaction' is ... without the entity 'CNN' ... having to stick it's fat neck out.
I won't be AT ALL surprised if they do 'have transcripts', but they're fakes ... in the Rather/Rovian-style, if you know what I mean.

(8,761 posts)So, US can't spy on American citizens, but others in FVEY can and can share info - getting around US spying regulations. So is Mensch saying that Asymmetric is made up of countries sharing intel and #COSINT (Crowdsourced Research: A New and Potent Grassroots Force) doing some kind of psy warefare against Putin & Mercer that is working. ?????
[div
The "Five Eyes" (FVEY) refer to an alliance comprising Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States. These countries are bound by the multilateral UKUSA Agreement for joint cooperation in signals intelligence, military intelligence, and human intelligence. In recent years, documents of the FVEY have shown that they are intentionally spying on one another's citizens and sharing the collected information with each other in order to circumvent restrictive domestic regulations on spying.[8]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_under_Five_Eyes_surveillanceclass="excerpt"]
Say you're the NSA. By law, there are certain sorts of spying you're not lawfully allowed to do on Americans. (And agency rules constraining you too.) But wait. Allied countries have different laws and surveillance rules. If there are times when America's spy agency has an easier time spying on Brits, and times when Britain's spying agency has an easier time spying on Americans, it's easy to see where the incentives lead. Put bluntly, intelligence agencies have an incentive to make themselves complicit in foreign governments spying on their own citizens.

(13,431 posts)Those are blockbuster allegations. Why is a reputable news source sitting on them? It certainly isn't because somebody asked them not to make them public. If those transcripts are sufficient for a news executive to state they are essentially evidence of treason, why have no charges been filed? Spare me the excuse about it taking time to build a case if a news executive can render a judgment seemingly weeks/months after being obtained?
Again, until charges are filed and the handcuffs emerge, this is all speculative wishful thinking.
Bernardo de La Paz
(49,036 posts)It is because, as you wrote, they are "a reputable news" organization.
