(146,331 posts)Volvo, once the pride of Swedish industry, is now a Chinese auto manufacturer. It looks like it's going to take the leap to electric cars on its own, and probably with Chinese official support.
How will that affect the US auto market? Probably not much. Since China became a Chinese company, sales are down dramatically and Volvo is no longer considered to be one of the most reliable cars you can own. In fact, it's ratings on initial quality are down near the bottom of the Powers initial quality survey.
Volvo is not an influencial automaker any longer. It may return to that status at some point, but it's not there at this time.
