White House election commission becomes a fiasco for Trump, Kobach
07/05/17 08:00 AM By Steve Benen
For the White House, it must have seemed like a good idea at the time. Donald Trump, annoyed to have lost the popular vote by 3 million votes and compelled by ridiculous conspiracy theories, created an elections integrity commission, which was tasked with finding evidence of a voter-fraud problem that exists only in far-right imaginations.
This hasnt turned out well.
Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Grimes (D) wrote on Twitter, One question: If @realDonaldTrump asked for your address, SSN, birthdate, political affiliation, & voting history, would you give it to him?
For most of the country, the answer is a resounding no.

(23,155 posts)So far only 3 states have agreed to provide all the information. This is totally ridiculous that anyone would agree to send every person in their states' name, address, phone #, birth date, drivers license #, Voter registration, number of times they've voted and last 4 digits of SS#. Far worse, they've asked it to be sent to an unsecured site where anyone could hack in and commit fraud against these people on a massive scale. There should not be a single taker, given these terms and those that do comply can probably be sued by anyone in their state for illegally divulging their information on a known to be unprotected site.

(19,204 posts)Steven Root. What a cross section of roles HE'S played during his career. Everything from Milton in 'Office Space' to the money man in 'No Country For Old Men', and everything in between. He was great in "'Oh Brother, Where Art Thou' as well. Great talent for a guy who never gets to play a leading man, but he always does the best at whatever he gets.

Anything with Kobach involved is IMMEDIATELY suspect. He may have forgotten, he's laid down one unescapable track record on voter suppression for ANYBODY with half a brain to trust anything he's up to. Judging from the comments from multiple state officials and the coverage it's getting, he's famous for it by now!
But then again, the half-a-brain contingent out there is large enough to have fallen for trump...

I dunno, but it seems that Trump is the first person in history to actually give themselves more of that proverbial "rope" (on a daily basis).

(468 posts)that it would only be fraud that benefited Democrats? I guess we can grab the smelling salts to even suggest that lily-white Republicans committed any fraud.
