by Ken Meyer | 9:43 pm, July 8th, 2017
Donald Trump Jr. says his meeting with a Russian lawyer last year was not campaign-related, though it seems President Trumps legal team has a somewhat different take on the situation.
On Saturday, New York Times confirmed that the presidents son joined several of his fathers campaign associates for a meeting with a lawyer tied to the Kremlin. Trump Jr. insists the discussion focused on a Russian adoption program, and it had nothing to do with government politics or any cooperation with the Russian government during the 2016 election.
Trump Jr. previously insisted he never met with the Russians, but after the Times published their article, representatives for himself and Jared Kushner sent statements to Fox News to address the story. Trump Jr. acknowledged the discussion, saying he didnt know who he would encounter before the meeting began, but it had nothing to do with campaign matters:
<< It was a short introductory meeting. I asked Jared and Paul to stop by. We primarily discussed a program about the adoption of Russian children that was active and popular with American families years ago and was since ended by the Russian government, but it was not a campaign issue at that time and there was no follow-up
I was asked to attend the meeting by an acquaintance, but was not told the name of the person I would be meeting with beforehand. >>
On a separate note, NBCs Hallie Jackson received a statement from Trumps outside counsel, suggesting the meeting was a hoax orchestrated by Democratic operatives:

They were discussing Russian sanctions and the retaliatory adoption rule. How does he think US Intel won't get this?
