Junior was and still is vying to be MVP in his father's eyes. It isn't enough that he's running the Trump Organization with his brother.

Junior is in competition with his sister, Ivanka, and her husband, Jared. Their father relies on them, not Junior for advice. Their father thinks they're smarter than Junior. Their father believes they belong in the White House after he's done, not Junior.

Getting serious dirt on Hillary would have been a coup which would have been richly rewarded by Trump. Junior would have been his father's advisor, not Jared.

Desperation and sibling rivalry at their worst. Almost Shakespearean.

The only reason why Trump hasn't totally disposed of Junior altogether is what Junior knows. For example, if Trump were to take everything away from Junior (e.g., throw him out of the Trump Organization, out of the Will, won't take his phonecalls, shut off the money, blackball him from future employment elsewhere, etc.), you know Junior would become Mueller's new BFF.
