A Russian lawyer tells NBCs Today show that she was summoned to Trump Tower during last years presidential campaign to meet with Donald Trump Jr. and asked if she had information on the Clinton campaign. The lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, told NBC she received a phone call from a man she didnt know and was told to meet with the Trump campaign. She says she didnt have information on the Clinton campaign and has never worked for the Russian government.
NBCs Today and MSNBC aired an interview of the lawyer on Tuesday. Its her first public comment since Donald Trump Jr. acknowledged that he made time for the meeting hoping to get information on Clinton, his fathers Democratic presidential opponent.
Veselnitskaya says Jared Kushner, Donald Trumps son-in-law, attended the meeting but left after a few minutes. Paul Manafort, then Trumps campaign chairman, also attended but never participated and spent much of the meeting on his phone. It wasnt clear from the NBC report who in the meeting asked her for information.
On Clinton, she says through a translator: Its quite possible they were looking for information. They wanted it so badly.

(2,342 posts)Perhaps Trump and his minions will get a taste of their own medicine as Moscow turns on them. Always hard to know the Soviets motives.
Either way this is excellent payback for the administration trusting the Soviets.

(2,342 posts)Compliant subservient acquiescence corruptible... Maybe they hoped for a president that was at least somewhat less transparent with the treason. Maybe even the Russians have a bit of pride when it comes to the subjects they blackmail. Maybe they want to at least keep up the pretenses of adversarial relations. When Trump started treating them better than Canada England and Australia they may have realized he was going way overboard.

(7,814 posts)regime is compromised. She can fill in a few more details, true or not, and Jr goes to jail.
Anyone who knows of any of the many Trump shady deals, unseemly meetings, half-illegal moves, campaign misbehavior, vacations with putins daughter, etc has power over this administration unlike anything we've seen before.
The most controllable, compromised, unethical family in the US is in the WH.

Seems like she's hiding something, herself.

"Like shit through an hourglass. This is the USA president."
She is probably lying. Team clustertrump always lies.
Meanwhile, the real world marches on. Korean ICBM's. Loss of American trade. Laughing stock of the world. Poor people being screwed. Minorities being killed. Everywhere you look, we are being damaged. Our democracy dying.

(3,063 posts)I think she is saying exactly what Putin wants her to say. Don Jr has already admitted to the meeting, so there's no denying it now. Her version of the meeting makes it look like it was the Trump team that initially made the contact and not the Russians. Either way it's treason for Trump & Co.

Kushner and Manafort have not given their stories yet, that we know of. Maybe they've testified to Mueller.

(6,395 posts)It was the Trump side that called for the meeting, I think that much is true. Her not being an agent or not being connected to the Kremlin.... that doesn't pass the smell test.
And this doesn't hurt Putin as it does Trump. The story has gone from Russia hacked the election to the Trump team asked for assistance from Russia to hack the election.
