Despite their opposing political affiliations the two say they have been on very friendly terms for decades and their affinity was on full display. They are two of 13 presidents in American history who served consecutive terms.

"He's a brother from a different mother," joked Bush early on, drawing a burst of laughter from the audience.

Bush also confessed that in the early days of his presidency he would often call Clinton for advice. While Clinton admitted his friendship with Bush's father and Clinton's predecessor, George H.W. Bush, was crucial to his success.

Though neither former leader mentioned their current successor by name both made remarks that could be interpreted as slights against President Trump.

When asked by the moderator of the event what is the most important quality for a person to possess if they hope to become president of the United States, Bush replied, "Humility."

"I think it's really important to know what you don't know and listen to people who do know what you don't know," Bush added.

Clinton suggested clarity and purpose. "Realize it's about the people, not you," he said. "A lot of these people who are real arrogant in office, they forget. ... You don't want to say, 'God, look at all those people I beat.' "

He didn't pretend that he'd gotten the popular vote, and he did acknowledge the need to reach across the aisle to the majority who didn't vote for him.

and "political capital" he was going to spend to get his agenda across? And as to"...the need to reach across the aisle..." did he really have any choice in the matter? I believe the Dems held a majority in one house of Congress throughout his terms in office. I could be wrong about that because I'm just going by memory, but the Dems at least held a "veto" power throughout his time.

About the only thing different between the W administration and Trump's is he didn't think he could get away with doing what Trump does.

I don't get the thing where people are so very anxious to burn bridges. I don't know what it accomplishesto demonized other people so frequently. Didn't they form a charity together?

When I saw the crap about Hillary hugging someone at a funeral I really had to wonder about the people posting it. How many weddings and funerals have you all been to without seeing people you're totally different from? It's not the time or place for differences. I think they both saw something poisonous about American politics and have been trying to heal it.

Kinda crazy. Probably the way it should be in our land of freedom. It's more understandable to me than Ginsberg being besties with Scalia.. Yikes!

P.S. I remember quite a bit of arrogance in both them while in office. Mr. I'm the Decider and Mr. Shake His Finger in My face..
