He serves the next 3 1/2 years kind of like the previous 6 months, i.e. daily embarrassments and idiocy but no unjustified wars started?

(115,735 posts)not to start a war (with, say, Sweden or Bolivia or New Zealand) he'll manage do outdo W in sheer incompetence and awfulness. He's already gutted most of the federal agencies, run off the scientists, trashed the standing of the US with all of our allies, installed incompetents and grifters as cabinet members, alienated the intelligence community and the judiciary, governed entirely by EO because he can't get anything through Congress, made common cause with white supremacists, the alt-right and the worst of the "Christian" dominionists, sold out to a hostile foreign power, and debased the presidency more than I thought was possible. He's already worse than W.

(90,773 posts)is **also** a danger to what America claims to stand for.
The biggest danger under a vastly unqualified Trump - an unleashed GOP.
Republicans wouldn't be any different under Pence because Pence wants what Congressional republicans want. Pence won't tweet his every verbal bowel movement out, he won't play tug-o-war with a handshake, and he won't say anything rude to other first ladies because he will barely speak to them - if he even speaks to them. But no one need kid themselves, Pence and the GOP Congress walk hand in hand.
As long as the GOP controls the oval and Congress, America is in danger.

(3,030 posts)As far as sheer "can you believe we elected this clown?" embarrassment, Trump is far worse. We've never had a president that the world (justifiably) looks upon as being as big a joke as Trump.
But I remember the absolute anguish I felt watching us destroy a country that did not attack us. That to me is a deeper anguish than I've felt with Trump to date. And I emphasize "to date." Trump may well prove to be a monster of foreign policy as well. But I'm praying he will continue to listen to Mattis, in whom I have a good bit of confidence. If he does, I'm hopeful we can undo a lot of the damage 4 years of Trump will cause.

(53,035 posts)I'm amazed you even have to ask. He's the biggest disaster in American history. The only variables are events that may arise. Whatever they are, he will fuck up, and if he's there long enough he may bring the rest of us down with him.

(22,976 posts)In the near future, like the one the PNAC boys wished for...and got. Fancy that.
But overall, #45 and his "administration" don't give a flying fuck about truth and the law. Or more importantly, REALITY. They've called into question the very CONCEPT of the United States, with their "alternative facts" and it's-not-illegal-if-we-do-it attitude.
I'm anticipating that the longer they're in office, the more outrageous and unhinged things are going to get. So, yes, worse than BushCo right now by a nose, but I fully expect #45 to soon open up a comfortable lead in the race to the bottom.

(2,702 posts)IMHO, there has never been a darker day in American history than the day congress voted to give Bush the green light on invading Iraq. As far as I am concerned, it ushered in the shit storm we have today.
Obama staved off the horrors for awhile but too much damage had been done. While he gave us a bit of a reprieve and salvaged what he could it couldn't fix what Bush broke.
I think the vote tainted Hillary's candidacy and helped usher in the orange storm.
I'd invite more to venture outside of twitter and read about the horror in a hell called Mosul. Read about civilian deaths up 400% since Trump waltzed in Read Here
How many American's realize the extent of death that has occurred since that very dark day years ago. I would estimate very few. Or, how many of us find the horror of it too much to live with so we find ways of blocking it out to cope. Is Trump our bad karma biting us in the ass?
What Bush has done to us and the world is still playing out and in our face. I cringe when I read those who claim Trump is so bad they miss Bush. It does seem that many feel more charitable to Bush and he has become more popular than when he left office.
It's all one in the same to me......and it isn't good.

(976 posts)Bush was a bad president but there was never any doubt that our democracy would survive him, just as we survived other bad presidents. Trump is a serious threat to the supremacy of the constitution.

Trump the opportunist is a placeholder in a time of chaos. There is shit going on that we will only learn of in the rear view mirror.
