Trumpsters had a difficult July 4th.

George Washington's favorite dessert caused outrage among the deplorables who decided including it as an Independence Day recipe was a subversive attack on their dear leader.

------

This year, the Fourth of July was a sensitive time for Trump voters. But with new evidence in the investigation regarding Trump's ties to Russia and stalled legislative agenda hanging over the presidency, what better way to blow off a little steam than to knock back a couple of beers, fire off bottle rockets, and salute the ol' stars and bars? Surely the liberal media couldn't take that away.

Yet, somewhere in the darkness beyond the rockets' red glare and the bombs bursting in air, NPR was unleashing a barrage of seditious tweets that gave the Trump commentariat fits—but actually just turned out to be the Declaration of Independence.

And Trump supporters on YouTube also found something to get pissed about: an 18th-century dessert.

Townsends, a popular cooking channel with almost 300,000 subscribers and hundreds of videos, specializes in 18th-century cooking and lifestyle content. It's where you might go to learn how to make parched corn or salt-glazed pottery—and it unintentionally ignited a firestorm when it released a video on July 3 about a traditional dessert known as the "orange fool."

In fact, go up to the Hill and do it. Might as well go all the way and have a Fool on the Hill.

He's never been anything even remotely political on the channel and it tore him apart when these asshat snowflakes decided to take their ire out on him in the comments on his video:

The human piles of dung are doing everything they can to ruin a fucking COOKING channel that re-creates historical recipes so we can try them to better understand how people lived more than two centuries ago on this continent!

and have thought it was a welcome respite from modern politics.

If there are not some areas where people from right and left can share common interests, then we should simply divide the country up and move on as two separate nations.

in this video! They beat the eggs, which obviously represent Mr Trump's supporters! This video is nothing less than a treasonous call for people to rise up violently and beat Trump supporters!

!
!!

Either that, or it's just a delightful cooking show, of which this episode shows us how to prepare a tasty treat from Martha Washington's own cookbook.

I can't be the only one thinking, "if Mrs. Washington could have had a KitchenAid mixer, she would have used it for that..."

And yeah, it is totally screwed the Trump fans think this was an attack on their god, but come on guys: if you wouldn't have forced an orange fool down our throats, we wouldn't be making fun of him.

I love old recipes. I just got a book of Tudor (16th century--Henry Vlll) stuff.
No wonder they died young.

Two Brits try to go back in time and live and eat as if they lived in historical eras like Elizabethan England, the Reformation, Middle Ages, Ancient Rome, etc. Each episode is about an hour and a half but hysterical. They get a physical exam before and after to see how their blood pressure and other vital signs change. Some of the dishes are incredible.

He recently completed a series focused on Martha Washington's Kitchen at Mt. Vernon, including several very good episodes with the re-enactor "Cylla", who portrays one of Washington's slaves - a field hand, or rather, someone who was tasked to support the field hands.
I have several reproduction recipe books from the 17th through 19th century; this was a good series to actually observe how the cooking was done in period and enables me to figure out how to modify some of those menus for a more modern kitchen.

During the entire series; he was careful to put a Trigger Warning for the Trumpeteers in front of each segment (especially the ones where he was with Cylla discussing what the field hands and "regular people" would eat) but as the one that caused the uproar was the final one where he was basically "bidding adieu" for his visit with the housekeeper, and they finished the series with the Orange Fool; a variant of a custard drink that had been a "high table" dessert since at least the 14th century.

Y'know, even after knowing about Troll-Bots and after all the private epithets I've cast in Drumpf's direction, if I had been the host of that channel, I still would *never* have though that just calling a drink what it was called in period would cause political issues.

He is right for calling them out.
