Why don't they want them televised. Are they afraid SNL will get too many 'bit' ideas?

(2,068 posts)They then control the message more and may be the first step in a complete state run media operation once this becomes accepted as the norm.
the free press is the enemy of authoritarian kakistocracies, so it must be brought to heel. in Russia, you just kill them into compliance. here they're trying different tactics till they find one that works.
bringing breitbart & gateway pundit into the press pool is another method - sow internal divisions, provide scabs who'll cross picket lines if the MSM decide to stand together in protest.
it's working. we're seeing the press put up with the video blackouts without much fuss. perhaps they won't have to start killing them, but it's a long way to 2024.

(18,402 posts)I mean, if they have no body language or expressions to mimic, just sound, it's gonna make it hard. That's my guess. Yet another third-grade tactic from the WH.

(90,714 posts)Not to mention the stupid empty "Breaking News" logo. I like having reporters do a summary -- with, one would hope, a bit of time to do some fact-checking.
Spicey and Snarly have turned the whole thing into an empty exercise.

(13,871 posts)but realize can never happen.
What if all the legitimate news outlets signed a pact that they would not cover the White House news or any administration press releases unless the briefings are open and televised and they have a right to ask questions? Leave them with the Russians, Brietbart and Newsmax the only ones in the room.
Yes, I know this can't happen but something needs to be done.

(8,785 posts)Must admit I have a stronger picture in my mind of SNL bits as I may actually have watched them more often.
One advantage of not having a television and only watching internet clips.

(420 posts)At minimum, the networks should have a written disclaimer stating "The Trump Administration does not allow us to show video of this event" every single time the "special screen" is shown with the audio playing.

(1,058 posts)When you have video of a press conference, highlights of that show up on the news, and some of them are carried live.
An audio press conference is never going to be covered live on CNN, and TV producers don't like to use recorded sound without video, so less ends up being shown to the public. Diligent people can read the transcripts, but most people aren't diligent.

(14,077 posts)I have to believe they do.
I also hope that some reporters also video these - low quality video of course. Video evidence may come in handy some day.

(11,686 posts)It is harder to tell if they are lying by voice tone. The only ones that see them are the reporters and it is hard for them to prove they were lying because the facial expressions are not available to the public. I noticed when more people were talking about facial expressions that was when they started to only do voice.
