People wouldn't lose their health care policy on day one. Ins companies still have
a contract with the insured - but they can always cancel? They would immediately
stop writing more policies.
They would still have it, but their tax credit would go away.
The tax penalty would go away if you didn't get insurance.
All funding would cease - all the taxes - the payroll and investment taxes and other fees to fund
All expanded Medicaid funds would cease.
Pre-existing conditions would no longer be mandated for coverage. Same with
covering older children.
So, the outcome would be....
1. Total Chaos. Millions freaking out.
2. Insurance Companies would cancel policies - who knows when, exactly
3. States would either be in a deep hole - or decide who to stop covering? Not sure about this?

(42,770 posts)me driving home, when I heard that Trump said, let the ACA fail, was WTF - we have a president
of the country who doesn't give a flying flip about 11.3 million people. And, who has zero intellectual capacity to even think - what about those people? Would they be covered? Will they die?
Let them eat cake President.

(34,085 posts)So the tangible consequences would happen 2 years from the imiginary repeal.
Things can't ramp up or down immediately (remember the added delay of a year, after several years of planning, for the merged drug/medical cap - that cost me personally about $6,000 because our family always hits the out-of-pocket cap, and pharmacies were permitted to go an additional year being uncapped?). That means chaos at the unpredictability of what the rules would be in 2 years would begin, and ramp up as it becomes clear that even two years is far too short for the jerks to create a replacement plan.

(42,770 posts)of saying you repealed is just hideously wrong.
Repealing ACA was always just a code for "We agree with you, why the hell should we help less fortunate people be able to see a doctor." That's where they got caught - they never wanted to replace - but then Trump came along bragging about how it would be easy and he would deliver a masterful plan. OOPs - they believed him. What did he deliver, nada.
If Trump believes he is so brilliant. Why not roll up his shirtsleeves and really figure it out? He built a business empire - albeit on shirking debt and non-disclosures and out-lawyering everyone. But, he must have some smarts. The media, if they ever get to talk to him again - should ask - why did you say you had a brilliant plan. A Dems thinking about running should put that one on the note pad.
