General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWaPo's article on Trump's NYT interview is terrific.
The whole article is worth reading, but here are the quotes from former DOJ officials:
"...Former U.S. attorney in New York, Preet Bharara, who was fired by Trump, tweeted: The President today effectively asked Sessions for his resignation. Will he resign or insist on being fired?
Robert Raben, a former assistant attorney general for the Office of Legislative Affairs during the Bill Clinton administration, said: The president plays with fire when he attacks his military, law enforcement and Justice people. They are the bulwark of our safety. Demeaning them harms all of us.
Matthew Miller, a former Justice Department spokesman in the Obama adminstration, said the country appeared headed for a massive crisis" and called it "an attack on the very independence of the Justice Department."
"I think what the president is making clear here is he doesnt believe the Justice Department ought to be able to make its own decisions about whether and how to investigate him," Miller said..."

And I've been enjoying the comments, especially this one from 8:47 a.m. by None Dare Call It--:
"Everyone is wrong except Trump, who is never wrong. What is there to even talk about here?
Comey was wrong. All the newspapers are wrong--all the time (except the National Enquirer). The leakers are wrong--and they shouldn't be leaking wrong information all the time. All of the intelligence agencies are wrong. The 400 pound kid on his bed in the basement was right, though. That kid was a genius. The courts and the judges are wrong--Not the Supreme Court anymore, since Gorsuch, unless of course they rule against Trump. All those women he groped are wrong. The Pope is wrong. Putin is wrong--scratch that--Putin tells Trump what's right. The Government Ethics Office is wrong. Some things in the Constitution are wrong--not the gun thing--but the press thing, you know. The Attorney General is wrong, and the Assistant AG, and all the rest of the AG office, independent prosecutor Mueller is wrong, Sean Spicer started getting to be wrong to the point where he could hardly talk anymore.
Trump is never wrong. He is so right that he can say one thing one second and the complete opposite thing at the same time and both things are right. BecauseTrump words are quantum particles.
In the meantime, Trump's base agrees with everything Trump. And the Republican Congress, scared to death of that willfully ignorant and pathetically gullible base, Republicans that used to crow its conservative principles, now walk around with their heads on backward because they've been whiplashed a thousand times, trying to keep that Trump base happy, happy, happy.
All about that base, 'bout that base..."

Once litte Donnie Jr. gets questioned, maybe he will break? He is almost as smart as his daddy, but not quite. Crumples like a cheap suit (one of his father's) when the going gets too hot. Like, when someone asks him questions!!

(10,063 posts)The Washington Post provides access to most of their articles through subscriptions only, so you can usually see only part of a paragraph and the rest is inaccessible.

(17,276 posts)You have to be a WaPo subscriber. But--they partner with dozens of other newspapers around the country, so if you subscribe to one of their partners, even with a digital subscription, you are in. You just have to sign up via that paper.
Example: we subscribe to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, digital. They are a partner, so we went to them and asked and they sent us a link to sign up with. Two daily papers for the price of the cheaper one!

(24,763 posts)Will look into that. We subscribe to our local daily. On Sundays, they include the WaPo National Weekly section, so perhaps some relationship there.

(17,276 posts)I think you will find a partner list on WaPo's website. Good luck!

(15,649 posts)eat shi.... err, humble pie if it means getting something they want very badly -- like lots of money and lots of power. Sessions will take it in the rear smiling ... because he gets to fuck over all those he hates.
Apologies for the crudeness -- I couldn't think of any better way to express this.

(4,341 posts)Republicans always throw their own under the bus the very moment they cross the line by less than an inch, and Trump is notorious for that, reason why he fits so well as part of a corrupt party.
In the republican party you are not allowed to have thoughts of your own, you either follow the plan to a 't', or you will be thrown under the bus. Serves them well.
