Personally I do "blame" Nader for 2000. The difference in Florida between Gore and Bush was literally at most a few hundred votes, no matter how it was counted. Yes Green Party voters had a right to vote for Nader, everyone has that right in a Democracy. So in a sense it isn't fair to blame anyone for simply exercising their right to vote their conscience. Nader was asked to back off in close swing states, and he refused. Had he not refused I have no doubt Gore would have picked up the hundred or two hundred votes he needed to win in Florida. So it is clear to me that Gore would have won had Nader not contested that election himself

I don't think the same can be said with any degree of confidence regarding Stein in 2016. Technically it is true that had all Stein voters voted for Clinton instead in the states you mention that Clinton would have won, but the margins in those states were in the tens of thousands, not a few hundred. Many of Stein's voters were never going to vote Democratic even if no Green Party candidate ran. Even if Stein had never been born and thus had no say in what happened, many would have stayed home along with millions of other potential voters. Many would have joined the tens of thousands of left leaning millennials who voted Libertarian instead of Democratic. Why not blame them too? Or the many millions of apathetic or disillusioned adult American citizens who don't participate in our elections? Non voters "won" the plurality in quite a few states.

There will always be fringes in politics. In parliamentary democracy systems they simply are regarded as factions, to either invite into a coalition or not, depending on whether they clear the threshold needed in order to be seated and how badly you want their support.

and having seen this ivory tower Sovietophile version of leftism - as if the Soviet Union were the best example of Marxism, as opposed to what it actually is, the worst - and given Stein's lack of any political credibility whatsoever this does not surprise me at all. There will always be a miniscule fraction of leftists who believe Putin or anyone else associated with the former Soviet Union are one step from sainthood.

I do have to ask though what it accomplishes to "shine a light" on a relative handful of wannabe Putinists and an even smaller handful of left leaning voters who so despise Secretary Clinton that they still deny that Putin and his buddies were one of the factors in her defeat especially when it simultaneously provides greater exposure for their poison. They pose no threat to the strength of our Party. They aren't credible even to true Marxists. Unless there is some cathartic value in screaming at nobodies like Stein or unless she is an straw man for smearing leftists in general - which I could understand if one disagreed the current slight leftward turn of the Party, I fail to see why she merits the attention she is receiving.

bringing along the ivory tower socialist I described above was part although a small part of Putin's manipulation of the election. I would have little problem if these almost daily posts were pointing that out. Even then there come a point where it's swatting the Stein gnat in Putin's overall invasion scheme with a hammer - I have to add I am not sure we've reached the point where it does until that dark corner has been fully illuminated and that corner is still pretty dimly lit.

Taking her know villainy - and I hope it is well known - as a given and then trying to tie that villainy to leftist politics is another matter. That may be great politics when it comes to battling the Party's leftward drift if that concerns you but it is bad for what actually is a very unified and focused Democratic Party.

Last November, they managed to dupe millions of dollars out of hopeful Democrats for the recount-that-would-never-happen and were able to keep the left-over three million for their purposes.

And in two swing states they got more votes than the final margin between Hillary and DT. Ignoring that party is not helpful.
