http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2012/07/romney-accused-of-racism-following-naacp-speech.htmlEven before Mitt Romney delivered his speech before the NAACP National Convention on Wednesday, it seemed unlikely that his primary motive was to convince large numbers of black voters to turn against President Obama. After the speech, many pundits concluded that Romney actually wanted to get booed, and he even admitted in an interview that he "expected" to get a negative response. By the end of the day, things took a nastier turn when Romney told supporters that if those in the NAACP audience like "free stuff," they should vote for Obama, prompting some to accuse him of race baiting.
On Wednesday evening, a pool report surfaced from a fund-raiser in Hamilton, Montana, in which Romney revealed how he's framing the NAACP incident:
By the way, I had the privilege of speaking today at the NAACP convention in Houston and I gave them the same speech I am giving you. I don't give different speeches to different audiences alright. I gave them the same speech. When I mentioned I am going to get rid of Obamacare they weren't happy, I didn't get the same response. That's ok, I want people to know what I stand for and if I don't stand for what they want, go vote for someone else, that's just fine. But I hope people understand this, your friends who like Obamacare, you remind them of this, if they want more stuff from government tell them to go vote for the other guy-more free stuff. But don't forget nothing is really free.
While reporting the news, Rachel Maddow said, "It seemed like Mitt Romney wanted to get booed at the NAACP this morning." She explained, "He wanted to wear that around his neck like a badge of courage. It looks like he is not wasting any time in doing so." Later on MSNBC, Lawrence O'Donnell suggested that the Romney campaign intended to get booed so that the video could play "in certain racist precincts where that will actually help them."

(19,458 posts)Can we just pledge to correct their mean-spirited assertions that "Obamacare" is a HAND-OUT?? That is the thing that bothers me the most about Rmoney's constant theme. Obamacare is about allowing people to purchase insurance for their family. Purchase. Not giveaway.
If Mittens had any decency or sense (not likely,) he would know that it actually saves taxpayers if we enact all of Obamacare. We are paying for people who are using the ER as a primary doctor now, because they don't have insurance. We pay thousands for a visit, that could have been handled for a few hundred. But that is free stuff... being forced to seek health care with no insurance. The taxpayers, the insured, the health care consumers, all pay when people don't have insurance.
The republicans are trying to make this look like an entitlement, but in reality it's more like a way to allow people to pay for their own care... to get decent care. And much of it has to do with people who ARE already working, and do not have insurance or are forced off the insurance because they are sick.
We really have to crush their meme that this is some freakin' giveaway. It is not. I hate the dishonesty in this. There are people who actually believe that this will cost them money, that they are paying for the people that don't work.. but frankly, we're already paying for that.

Well, sure, that he tripped this off at the NAACP was probably intentional as Lawrence O'Donnell suggested. This "low blow" may help him in "certain racist precincts" and that was probably what is hoped for. Disgusting behavior for a presidential candidate.
But do you not think that he is showing his disdain for anyone who occupies a lesser station in life than his lofty perch and those of his ilk?
Have we finally seen the real Willard Romney?

This may be an attempt to divert attention away from the Bain Capital story and the other stories about lying on FEC forms, etc.
He would rather have people talking about this than that... Perhaps?
