I know GOP claimed he did. Didn't he just get student deferments?? Many did, and some viewed that as draft dodging.

One brother was in Vietnam, other tried to enlist and failed the physical. My ex and I were in grad school, and he got several student deferments.

Poor guy! I notice that he does OK playing golf though.

Vietnam had nothing to do with protecting America from harm. If we're fighting to stop an insane dictator from conquering Europe then sure, have a draft. If it's a 'political war' trying to sway the course of foreign nations, forget about it.

I thought that Vietnam was necessary to stop the spread of Communism but when the war was taken away from the Generals,Admirals and Field Commanders and Politicians took over than we should have gotten the hell out of there then..But
Why is it ok to watch your brother or neighbor,or best friend board the bus and leave for boot camp as you wave your good byes..
That is cowardliness and those that boarded the bus were not Stupid.

I expect them to be honest about the reason. There were consequences for those who chose to refuse, leaving the country or claiming conscientious objector status and doing other service. They were not cowards, they were people with serious objections to the war.

Trump is just a liar and a coward and a con man.
