Speaking of Russia, here's an intriguing hypothetical
In 1908, an object hurtled in from space and exploded over the Siberian wilderness near the Stony Tunguska River. The blast flattened 2,000 square miles of forest and is estimated to have unleashed the power of 3 5 megatons of TNT.
Had that object struck a mere three hours later -- a minuscule difference in astronomical terms -- it would have detonated in the vicinity of Moscow. The most populous city in Russia was the home of 1.1 million people then.
Had that latter possibility unfolded, how drastically would it have altered history? The power of the Russian throne was crumbling then amidst growing unrest. The march to WWI was underway throughout Europe.
How would the devastation to Russia's largest city and a huge chunk of the nation's population have changed its course in that crucial period? Might Lenin and his movement have never arisen? How would it have changed WWI itself?
Startling to realize the multitude of dominoes that would have fallen from one three-hour difference.
