Just heard him on TV, where he said, "any movement to remove Mueller would signal the beginning of the end of the tRump presidency..." sounds good, right? Here comes the disclaimer:"...unless he's (ie: Mueller) done something wrong."
And THERE is the typical, fucking wiggle room that Rs always, ALWAYS provide for themselves.
Because at the end of the day, when tRump does remove Mueller, we can count on Lindsey Graham to come to his defense by saying, "well, I agree that what Mueller did was wrong. Was it terribly wrong? Not in my opinion, necessarily. But this is a judgement call on the part of the (fake) president, and I will give him the benefit of the doubt. It's his call to make. Now, let's move on to more-important things."
I hate these fuckers.

(4,268 posts)but would you have a problem if the Dems did it?
Personally, I wish more Dems were as ruthless as the rep comrades. We'd be in a much better situation as a country.
For example: Was watching Paul Begala and the goatee'd POS who was Trump's communications guy before he quit. I think the "discussion" started about the jamboree political rally.
The POS kept defending Trump and had his talking points and delivered them nicely. (much to my frustration and anger).
Then comes Begala, slow and constantly agreeing with POS: "I agree with POS when he says...but", "POS is right about....but". The other guy, POS, never conceded anything while Begala didn't have much but a decent zinger towards the end of the discussion.
It's frustrating with the Dems (some exceptions but few). It's like they never talk to each other.

(24,396 posts)The problem with people like Begala is that they've been around too long, they have been too far inside the ass of high-level politics, and they tend to talk on TV the way they talk to their RW buddies at the cocktail parties. Well, their buddies have never talked like that on TV. Look at Eric Cantor admitting the whole "Obamacare is failing" meme was a lie that they knowingly told for 7 years. Look at Boehner admitting Obamacare is here to stay. These guys have know this for years. But Ds let them get away with lying about it.

(11,742 posts)Evil in the service of good is still evil. I agree that Democrats should be more forceful and more vocal. People like Al Franken, Adam Schiff, and Kamala Harris are doing that, but they do it in a way that is still ethical. The problem with Republicans is that they do not care about rules that govern social contact within advanced society. If those norms and traditions are destroyed, then there is no "better situation" or country worth saving.

(4,268 posts)Ultimately it's your actions that create policy, not what you say. I'm not advocating for lies and deception a-la republicons but for more effective ,decisive and smart communication. We live in an idiocracy now where our society has a short attention span.
Personally I was just referring to matters of communication. Get an easy to remember message out.
We control the government, we create good policy.

(11,742 posts)Republicans win only because of lies and cheating. They cannot win on a truthful message so they have to coordinate a lie, because the lie has to be tight and repeated so that it can be effective. That is a huge difference which in my opinion means that we should not be anything like the Republicans are but focus on developing our own, positive and effective means of getting the Democratic message out there.
So basically, I totally agree with you about the second part of your post and I think that your message about "...government, ....good policy" is good, although I would not use the word "control" myself. It sounds too authoritarian. I would go for something like, "We know that government can work for all when we can create good policy".

(11,742 posts)My wife and I have this discussion quite often. It is very frustrating that many Democratic politicians are not out there hammering away at Republican lies.
Government has gotten a really bad rap ever since Reagan convinced many people that "government is the problem". Bad government is a problem, and Republicans are infamous for espousing bad government policy. They break government then run around with their hair on fire screaming how "government is broken". They capitalize on racial, gender, sexual orientation, and other anxieties and resentments to rile up a small but vocal and active base, while depressing the political activity of the majority of people by pointing out inefficiencies in government (like many of us have experienced).
The other day, a right wing relative of mine posted a meme about "You have been to the DMV, now liberals want government to manage health care". Yes I have been to the DMV, yes sometimes it has been painfully slow, and some of the officials are not suited to public service and interaction. However, the DMV handles 10s of millions of transactions and tracks automobiles, boats, and other vehicles across the country. They could improve, but they do a pretty darn good job given the scope of their duties.
The point is that Republicans rely on negative emotion and attitudes like greed, fear, resentment, and others to fire up their base. They couch things in terms of "freedom" and "liberty" but the reality is they believe in neither and the vagueness of the terms allow their base to fill them in with any meaning they wish. We have to counter that with a clear and positive vision of how we and government can work together to raise everyone's standard of living.
