Lisa Murkowski's Rising Profile

You can read her story on Wikipedia, I am sure.

Being a Republican is in her blood, given her father's history, and, for that matter, her own.

But in 2014, the Republicans shut her out. She lost in the primaries to a Teabagger. She ran a write-in campaign and, quite remarkably, won. She was only the second Senator to do so, the first being Racist Strom Thurmond way back in the early 1950s.

Last night, she once again showed herself to be a Badass. She stood tall and strong against incredible pressure from her "colleagues" in the Senate and against outright bullying from Donny Two Scoops (who was too cowardly to do it himself, sending in surrogates to threaten her instead).

She doesn't need the Republicans, but they DO need her.

That's power.

It would be remarkable - and a study in continuing Badassness - if she left the GOPee and became an Independent, maybe caucusing with Democrats. Even better, to change the balance in the Senate and make the GOPee plurality perilously close, become a Democrat.

SHE was the biggest hero last night.

Another world class Badass, who happens to be woman.

switch sides or go independent. Trump, being the misogynistic scumbag he is, may well drive her to that.

her and her state, they might all turn from the dark side. They didn't think through sending Zinke after her when she chairs the appropriations committee for his dept. Even if she didn't chair it, I think it is possible another R would push back for her as a matter of principle and checks and balances.

i think that if the vote would have been closer there would have been some other defectors. Even the dumbest senators know that if they pass it they will lose elections. In her case, Alaska is one of the most subsidized states in the nation, with scant infrastructure once you leave Anchorage and this bill would have been devestating. To me, doing the obvious does not make you a bad ass, mererly normal. No one is afraid of the POS President. His threats are pointless noise. He's already a dead letter as our Republic twists in the wind.
