Gov. Ducey would likely appoint someone who WOULD vote for it. Sorry to rain on the parade today, but we have to stay vigilant. This fight may not be over.
Also: 'Freedom Caucus/others are "working on" a new bill.'

(51,630 posts)This isn't over by a long shot. I have been getting emails from MoveOn, Dem. Committee, Indivisible, Change.Org, etc and they know we must remain "vigilant" and hold them all accountable since they will probably try to repeal again. We know that the GOP doesn't ever give up on their evil, self serving agendas. They don't fool anyone.
Resist! Peace.

(13,390 posts)Southern and rural areas have really gotten a lot out of Medicaid expansion. Republican governors in those states are not likely to give up on it easily as it has eased some budget woes.

(7,637 posts)this will bring us closer to the 2018 elections. As we get near, nothing will get done as all senators that are up for elections are going to be maneuvering to keep their seats. If it could not be passed now, it will be even worse then.

(149,712 posts)They will not compromise, and this all by itself dooms them to failure.
They do this over and over, with the same results.
They don't know how to govern.

(24,396 posts)Yesterday was humiliating enough. Rs need to get as much calendar distance between the healthcare defeat and the midterms as possible. Healthcare has become the bad penny that Rs don't need to see again, ever.

(22,913 posts)That was a big part of the rush. Every time Congress heads home Republicans lose votes for Obamacare repeal. They can't try another move now for months - McCain isn't giving up yet. That gives a lot of time for opposition to Republican plans to build. That is what they tried to avoid.

September is already lined up with hard votes!
Past due debt limit increase - they'll need Democrats.
2017-18 budget. They'll need Democrats.
Tax reform and any kind of infrastructure programs? They'll need Democrats.
And this Congress is facing primaries and elections over the same period of time.
I believe some bipartisan tweaks to ACA is all they can do.
