(82,849 posts)The White House is stuffed to the rafters with Republicans. Each and every last one of them is a Republican, the normal and natural result of Republican policies and practices over the last 50 years. Now that that reeking bag of shit has split its seams and spilled out all over the body politic, the "Republican" label on it doesn't magically disappear.
Trump is the Republican Party and the Republican Party is Trump.

(2,807 posts)I see the next Act of this tragedy as Trump vs the Gop. I see it as already begun. Which is why I believe that Trump's days are numbered.

(58,785 posts)The White House and cabinet are almost entirely stuffed with Republicans, although, true, a majority are Koch alliance and Mercer agents (as are much of Congress and the Republican Party leadership). Even Bannon and his nasty little group are identified with the GOP, though may technically not be part of it.
Then there're opportunist swindler Rump, who couldn't explain what Republican is if you put a gun to his head, and his large percentage of Republican voters, most particularly his personality cultists--the Republican base. And those last are why Rump currently very much also defines the Republican Party, even though the Kochists will win this civil war and almost certainly provide the next, new demagogue for a base eager to be suckered.
Which, of course, brings us to the next act of this tragedy, although imo the tragedy is that they didn't all kill each other off in an earlier play.

(2,807 posts)Would be for Donald to fire Sessions.
Or fire Bannon.
Or attempt to fire Mueller.
Any of these acts would hasten Trump's demise.

(58,785 posts)but even more for the Republican Party to err so big so much that it loses congress in 2018 and the WC in 2020. It may be that ultimately people will not associate their reps with Rump as much as we need them to, and that could be disastrous.
And, with a big except for the extremely serious issues of national security (ours and everyone else's) under Rump, a President Pence would be far more dangerous. He'd work with other Kochist extremists in congress to dismantle our institutions and get a lot accomplished, including control of SCOTUS...

(13,081 posts)When they realized they were stuck with him, they would use him as their deflection to protect their brand. They always intended to do as much damage as possible in search of some mythical past greatness, but now they can do whatever they want and blame Trump. If that stops working, they'll impeach and go back to blaming PELOSI or THE BLACK GUY (cue scary harpsichord music).

(58,785 posts)them. And now, of course, they intend to fool the right into blaming Rump for their own actions as much as possible, what they can't successfully glue on the evil Democrats, of course. Rump's so completely out of his depth, he's helpless.
But Charles Koch has loaded the succession with so many allied with his far-right extremist agenda that we could literally have a "Designated Survivor" situation and end up with a Kochist as president. He, his alliance, and others like them are so powerful that, when, for instance, discussing what the party and its leaders are doing legislatively, they are virtually never mentioned by whole networks who pretend to inform us 24/7 about what's happening.
They have spent decades decaying the public forum and created the stupid that got him their nomination and put him in the white house.

(15,543 posts)the current kremlin-dominated White House is the spawn of many years of republican malfeasance. The whole party is morally bankrupt.

(90,773 posts)They voted for him. They have enabled him.
They own him.
The GOP are using Trump as much as he used them to gain the oval.
They have excused his words and deeds repeatedly. He's new. He doesn't know better. He's just different.
No.
No. No. No. No. No.
Trump ran as a republican. Trump was nominated as a republican. Trump is squatting in the WH as a republican.
There are republicans in the White House.
No one gets to pretend otherwise simply because they don't want to wear the stink.
He didn't HAPPEN TO THEM.
They created the mind rot that enabled him.

(37,161 posts)You backed him, you bought him, guys. He didn't come out of the blue, he thumped every drum you've thumped for 50 years.Just because you don't like his style doesn't mean he's not one of you.
And a reminder: This is twice in a generation where a Republican squeaked into office on an electoral win but popular vote loss, and then proceeded go full-bore on shoving through an agenda stuffed with their pet projects. WITH the full backing of the Republican Party. No "moving to the center", no finding consensus, just grabbing power with both hands.
It is a thoroughly Republican White House now.
Did Pence get fired, too?

(2,151 posts)When the current and temporary resident of the White House calls on the mob to vote out all the current Republicans in the House, Senate, and any Governors who failed to sing hosannas to the king in a manner that pleases him. He'd have to declare war on the party.
Regardless, they'd still own the whole steaming pile of pure trump, and are going to be held accountable!
