What kind of horse manure is this ?

The author is arguing that if Robert Mueller finds illegal activity by Donald Trump he should look away:

Granted, if Mueller has the goods, that should be enough. But if this looks like some sort of Al Capone thing where they can’t bust him for anything but tax evasion, a lot of Americans—maybe a third of us—would feel like this was an attempt to nullify the 2016 election results. And they might have a pretty good point.

This is ridiculous. Think of the Mueller investigation as a legal search pursuant to a search warrant. If the authorities find evidence of criminality not related to the initial warrant they aren't obliged to look away. That doesn't mean they can go on a fishing expedition. It does mean they aren't obliged to ignore things in clear view.

If the Chumpsters want to split the country over this so be it. If the bad guys win this country wasn't worth saving anyway.

Trump's a crook. It's rather widely known and accepted, but 30% of the country seems to be OK with that.

I'm not. The history of special counsels like Mueller is that they find wide ranging criminality. In the Trump admin, I'd expect to find many criminals. Corruption starts at the top, the investigation starts at the bottom. You crumble the foundation and the whole edifice will fall.

They've always been ethnonationalist fascists, and always will be.

If the net result is that hardcore Tr*mp supporters stop believing in our political system, that's a fantastic outcome as it means they'll stop voting.

Fuck those people. They're our fellow citizens by accident, when in fact they're perpetually a hair's breadth from becoming our active enemies.

CNN: Mueller's investigation of Trump is going too far

(CNN)Last month, when President Donald Trump was asked by The New York Times if special counsel Robert Mueller would be crossing a line if he started investigating the finances of Trump and his family, the President said, "I think that's a violation. Look, this is about Russia."

The President is absolutely correct. Mueller has come up to a red line in the Russia 2016 election-meddling investigation that he is dangerously close to crossing.

According to a CNN article, Mueller's investigators could be looking into financial records relating to the Trump Organization that are unrelated to the 2016 election. According to these reports, "sources described an investigation that has widened to focus on possible financial crimes, some unconnected to the 2016 election." The piece goes on to cite law enforcement sources who say non-Russia-related leads that "involve Trump associates" are being referred to the special counsel "to encourage subjects of the investigation to cooperate."

This information is deeply concerning to me. It does not take a lawyer or even a former federal prosecutor like myself to conclude that investigating Donald Trump's finances or his family's finances falls completely outside of the realm of his 2016 campaign and allegations that the campaign coordinated with the Russian government or anyone else. That goes beyond the scope of the appointment of the special counsel.

It ended with lying about a blow-job

Trump's financial dealings (money laundering, bail outs, etc) it is a meaningless argument.

I suspect the GOP operative author is fully aware of how bogus his argument is. Goal is to discredit Mueller and protect Trump.

Republicans spent years trying to nullify Bill Clinton and Barack Obama's elections by mindless and baseless investigations and "fishing expeditions". That's not what Mueller appears to be doing here, however, and it's hard to believe that anybody would seriously suggest that law enforcement should just be able to "look the other way" if they have suspicion of criminal activity but then again, Republicans usually say six incredible things before breakfast, so........

16. Suppose he did get busted for tax evasion
Mon Aug 7, 2017, 02:15 PM

Suppose he neglected to pay several million dollars. Would 1/3 of tax paying Americans be willing to overlook that? I sure as hell hope not! Bill Clinton's pseudo perjury got everyone riled up. How much worse would tax evasion be?

Furthermore, we already have Don Jr colluding. That is a fact. What astounds me is that people like this author can ignore the evidence that has already surfaced and continue holding onto the narrative that tRump didn't do anything wrong, that it's all a Dem (or deep state) plot to undermine him.
