Dutchman & Omarosa Manigault

.

Whenever I see Omarosa Manigault , I am reminded of of Amiri Baraka's play, Dutchman.

Dutchman is perhaps the most shocking play I have ever studied in the Theater courses I've taken. More dramatic was the cold first reads I've performed, as the first exposure to the play...reading the words and directions without any visual cues or other context. It actually caused me to wake at night, on multiple nights, due to the intenseness of the work.

Here is the play, if you would like to perform a cold read of it: http://faculty.atu.edu/cbrucker/Engl2013/texts/Dutchman.pdf

She recently caused a bit of turmoil at the 2017 National Association of Black Journalists Convention.

Here is the movie adaptation of it:

Perhaps I am a little off based with my impression, but it is one that remains, each and every time I see her. When reviewing the play, or even reading an overview of it, there are numerous subtexts and factors that interweave throughout. It takes several viewings and hours of study to fully conceptualize Baraka's work.
