http://www.salon.com/2012/07/13/bachmann%E2%80%99s_muslim_witch_hunt/Michele Bachmann demands investigations into the Muslim Brotherhood's "deep penetration" into the U.S. government
The Minnesota Republican, joined by Republican Reps. Trent Franks, Louie Gohmert, Thomas Rooney and Lynn Westmoreland, sent letters to the inspectors general of five government agencies responsible for national security to demand they investigate infiltration by the Muslim Brotherhood into the highest reaches of the federal government. In particular, Bachmann singled out Huma Abedin, the wife of former congressman Anthony Weiner and a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. In case Abedin hasnt already been through enough already, Bachmann is now questioning her loyalty to the U.S. by asserting that Abedin has three family members who are connected to the Muslim Brotherhood (Abedin is Muslim). Shes been targeted before by anti-Muslim activists, and Bachmann notes that Abedins position affords her routine access to the Secretary and to policy-making. Bachmann also claims the state has taken actions recently that have been enormously favorable to the Muslim Brotherhood and its interests.
Another letter targets the Department of Defense, which Bachmann et al. accuse of failing to characterize accurately the jihadist motivations of Maj. Nidal Hassan, the Army psychiatrist accused in the Fort Hood shooting. A third letter went to the Department of Homeland Security, alleging the department is covering up the Muslim Brotherhood threat by developing an official lexicon that obfuscates its danger. Yet another letter went to the Department of Justice inspector general warning that officials there had been meeting with Muslim groups that she accused of being fronts for the Brotherhood. The final letter went to the Office of Director of National Intelligence, stating, we request that your office conduct a formal investigation or evaluation into the extent to which Muslim-Brotherhood tied individuals and entities were involved in actions they deem improper.
In an interview with the American Family Associations Sandy Rios late last month, Bachmann explained, It appears that there has been deep penetration in the halls of our United States government by the Muslim Brotherhood. The Muslim Brotherhood has been found to be an unindicted co-conspirator on terrorism cases and yet it appears that there are individuals who are associated with the Muslim Brotherhood who have positions, very sensitive positions, in our Department of Justice, our Department of Homeland Security, potentially even in the National Intelligence Agency.
...
Bachmanns fellow Minnesota congressman, Keith Ellison, a Democrat, wrote a letter to Bachmann and her co-signers yesterday demanding they provide evidence to support their accusations, or drop their claims and clear Abedin and others names. I request that you provide my office a full accounting of the sources you used to make the serious allegations against the individuals and organizations in your letters, Ellison wrote.

It all sound's very near another fellow, who in the late 1940s, and most of the 1950s, scared the hell out of americans, by claiming communists was all over the place - in the government, on state level - in most of the entertainment industry - and even in the armed forces - but when he attached the President, and the Armed forces for being communist sympathizers, he overstepped his bounds, and was tr-own to the wolves, who was just to happy making him pay...
This is just the area of McCarty all over again - and the worst is if just enough americans is willing, the witch hunt of that era, would be all over again...
60 year ago, it was the communist the fear was all about - now it is the muslims.. And specially as many want to believe their President is indeed a Muslim in secret..

(8,200 posts)What a disturbing state of affairs when she is regarded as the people's choice. I can't help from fearing for the future of our country when such flagrant abuse is not condemned by her own party. I see two important issues. Those who elected her and fellow members of her party whose silence is as shameful as the utterances of this evil person. It sure isn't the Republican Party that Eisenhower lead. I would encourage people to read his 1956 State of the Union address and compare it to propaganda spewed by the leadership of today's Republicans. These rabid spewers of hatred and division would have wanted to tear him from limb from limb.

(146,317 posts)with this. May she reap the just rewards.
On another line, why are there so many sexual references in this thread, including some that are borderline homophobic. What Bachmann is trying to pull is serious stuff, and criticism should be directed there. Sexual innuendo dilutes the real craziness and bigotry being exhibited by this person.

(34,845 posts)And there is the great 'corn dog moment' pictured above.
And she used the words 'deep penetration'.
It's a perfect storm suited for sexual innuendo. If, you know, you just want to laugh and not take anything she says seriously.
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)However, tit for tat isn't always a good idea, in my opinion. At least one of the posts in the thread strayed close to the line with likening being gay to something bad. Implying that someone horrible and awful is gay isn't the way to go, really. It says, essentially, that being gay is a bad thing. Marcus Bachmann is a horrid little person. He is a horrid little person no matter what his sexuality is.

(62,325 posts)I somehow got on her mailing list and every email she sends out, which seems to be every day and could better be described as spam, she informs her followers of how much they need her because of whatever new fear fantasy she is dreaming up for their consumption on any given day. After regaling them with her tales of woe, she never fails to tell them how much they need her to 'keep on fighting for them' and how much money it takes for her to keep up the 'work'.
She has a money-scam going on which is almost as good as the best scammers on the internet, maybe even better.
It's hard to believe that anyone still sends that woman money at all. But raising the 'Muslim Scare' will probably get her quite a bit of money from the haters who are her fans.
Not to mention the questions about her citizenship. Not very 'patriotic' of her to be holding dual citizenship for money purposes while serving in the US Congress.

(95,247 posts)Beck: Grover Norquist, some people say, was a big problem on this very topic in the Bush Administration.
Boykin: Well, Grover Norquist, and it is hard for the Republicans to accept this, but Grover Norquist is a Muslim Brotherhood facilitator. Now, he's very popular because of his tax position and the influence that he has over taxes. But the fact of the matter is Grover is the one who brought in Suhail Khan into the conservative movement and has staunchly defended Suhail Khan, who is the son of a very radical Islamic cleric who had Ayman al-Zawahiri in his mosque in San Diego a decade ago raising funds, essentially to support terrorism. And Gover has a very checkered background and, let me say Glenn, that even now members of Congress are starting to recognize that Grover has been involved with some very questionable insurgent elements from the Muslim Brotherhood here in America.
