(Newser) – President Obama has some unlikely new allies in his effort to get Mitt Romney to release his tax returns. Members of Romney's own party, from Haley Barbour to Michael Steele, are calling on the candidate for financial disclosure. "His personal finances, the way he does things, his record, are fair game," says Texas Rep. Pete Sessions. He calls it a "legitimate question," according to Talking Points Memo.

principal is anything goes when it comes to getting money. It doesn't matter if you earn it, inherit it or steal it. Once you have it, it's yours fair and square and you deserve to live like a king. Some right-wingers probably can't see how there would be anything Robme would need to hide.

Insofar as Romney as "rich boy" leader of the party infects the whole brand. The conservatives can huff and puff all day that there's "nothing wrong with being (ultra) rich," but they know damn well that the only way they can win these elections is by playing to the resentment of the un- and underemployed, and that can't happen when the standard bearer is waving the Tax Shelter flag of the Cayman Islands.

They are positively freaking out about this, because they're seeing movement in their own polls behind it.
