Mitt Romney is Weak, Weak, Weak

.... played with a gusto and coldness seldom seen from Democrats, at least since the Bill Clinton days. Asking for an apology is losing. Saying you want something you clearly have no power to get is losing.

There’s a meta-politics Obama is playing by slashing at Romney with suggestions he might be a felon. He’s wounding Romney, who is clearly rattled and angry about the charges, but just as clearly can’t defend himself or strike back. As I’ve noted many times, a thick layer of presidential politics (in a way that’s distinct from US politics at really every other level) resides at the brainstem level of cogitation — with gambits to assert power and demonstrate dominance. Obama looked in control of this situation; Romney didn’t.

...

There’s another part of this equation: I’m not sure how many people watching this spectacle even remember that it’s nominally about whether Romney is responsible for outsourcing Bain did post-February 1999 or its investment in a company that serviced abortion clinics. I barely remember it myself. What’s driving this now is that the Obama camp has backed Romney into a position in which he looks ridiculous — something much more lethal for presidential candidates than most people appreciate.

...

Partisans can be walked through the arguments of how this might be true, just as you could explain what John Kerry meant by saying he was for a bill before he voted against it. But it still makes no sense. And doubling down on nonsense makes you look silly and trapped. That’s especially dangerous for someone already saddled with a reputation for shifting his stories and positions to suit the moment.

2. Yes, its the subtle message that is often the most damaging and lasting.

Romney is being accused of being a liar and/or a crook. If its not true then why cant he simply put it to rest. So it might be true then.

That's the subtle (and accurate) message that many voters are taking away from this whole fiasco.

Very well played! Kudos to the Obama campaign!

He's being accused of being a liar and/or crook because his actions have made him one. He can't get rid of that image now..it's implanted by the candidates own actions and statements. Releasing the tax returns isn't going to help. If he thought there was one ounce of hope, he would have already done so. He's not doing so, because I suspect there is more damaging information in there.

By not releasing them, he's banking on people chalking this up to everyone picking on poor Romney. Bad idea, because the facts known already show him to be a liar.

On the issue of being liar, I'm not sure what he thought it would solve going on national TV and just running his mouth. He already has an image of being a liar, what makes him think we will believe him just because he says so? Really Romney? Release the damn records!

As far as I'm concerned he's already been established as a crook, by being a corporate raider and destroying jobs all for the sake of the almighty dollar. He brought all this on by thinking he could run on his business record, let him lie in his waste.

but I love it, anyway.

It eases tension, and shows he has a confidence and calmness about him. I like that in a leader.

He is confident and charming. His political skills are off the charts. I don't think Republicans were prepared for this kind of mastery, and that goes all the way back to 2008. He's taken their political game and sledge hammered them with it.

Didn't Slick Willard just write a book called "NO APOLOGY"?

I thought he abhorred apologies.

when it's demanded of him. Everyone else must bow down and beg for his forgiveness. He delights in those kinds of apologies.

Romney is looking dishonest and his campaign is looking utterly inept and chaotic. What that telegraphs to the voting public, putting aside the 27% that would vote for anything, human or not, that has an (R) after the name, is a Romney presidency would be dishonest, inept and chaotic.

The President and his campaign have been brilliant in hammering home, time and time again, this underlying message, imo, and their timing is excellent, defining Romney defines what his Administration would be and it's not looking pretty, lol.

6. so I read somewhere that the pic of Obama holding Mitten's "No Apology" book is from 2010

which begs the question, why did he have such a pic taken?

It's almost as if he knew back then who the likely contender would be, and was already gathering ammunition. Including a great pic just waiting for the perfect moment when the demands for apologies came from Mr. No Apology! BWAAHAAAHAAAHAAA!!!!

edited to add: and is that Rove I see in the background book?!?! BWAAAHAAAHAAAHAAAHAAA!!!!!!!!

I realize the President appears to be an easy going guy and all but doesn't the GOP consider that and realize who they are dealing with here?

The President has ice water coursing through his veins.

I don't believe making the President mad at them is a very good strategy.

And even Cheney felt compelled to go out there to prop Romney's image up. But then scuttling insect Mitt just took another nose dive all on his own. It's a miracle the rug burns on his face don't show up.

resonding is losing...

Losing

by Jed Lewison

Mitt Romney yesterday on Fox, as quoted by Jeff Zeleny and Ashley Parker of the New York Times:

“If you’re responding, you’re losing,” Mr. Romney told Fox News on Wednesday, his voice betraying no air of concern.

But as Zeleny and Parker note, Mitt Romney today launched a new television ad responding to the attacks on his record at Bain ... which I guess means Mitt Romney thinks he's losing.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/07/12/1109065/-Losing

...what the hell is running around demanding an apology everytime someone calls you out on your bullshit.

Mitt Romney loves to bully the vulnerable, but he's a punk-ass, whining wuss. Is that redundant?
