Im proud to be a Southerner,,,,,,,,

but that pride has nothing to do the all the bigots and hate mongers of the south. I have had to come to terms with my family history. I have three Great Grand Fathers who fought in what was referred to growing up as the "Great War of Northern Aggression". Two were killed in action, one captured at Vicksburg. I was taught and raised to believe that the war was not about Slavery. However after reading the 1861 State of Alabama Ordinance of Secession, it hard not to believe that the war was about supporting slavery of other human beings. I now find it hard to celebrate in any form, any remembrance of that War and those that fought it, even if they were family. We were wrong,,, time to accept that fact and move on!

My Father still says this shit.... states rights blah blah blah ....

I've taken the time to educate myself and I really like Tim Wise -
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Wise).

I struggled with how to come to terms with my history. Wise stresses responsibility not guilt. We have the responsibility to support causes and programs that address lingering inequity. We cannot change what happened but we can be an active participant in diminishing the result.
