Although Pence DOES need to be present if they're going to pull the 25th Amendment on Trump or force him to resign; taking him somewhere secluded like Camp David and presenting him with an already-printed-out letter of resignation and a pen, and a threat to use the 25th/resign en masse if he doesn't comply, would be a way to do it.
