WASHINGTON -- The Cleveland Clinic is cutting another tie to President Donald Trump, canceling plans to hold its 2018 Florida fundraising gala from the Trump-owned Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach.
"After careful consideration, Cleveland Clinic has decided that it will not hold a Florida fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago in 2018," the hospital system said in a statement. "We thank the staff of Mar-a-Lago for their service over the years."
The Clinic and its CEO, Toby Cosgrove, had taken criticism for continuing to hold the annual event there.
The exit follows a decision by Cosgrove and top executives of some of the nation's leading corporations on Wednesday to disband a business advisory council that reported to the president. They said Trump's recent comments on last weekend's violence in Virginia by neo-Nazis and Ku Klux Klan supporters were inappropriate and didn't represent the values for which they and their organizations stood.

These are traitors and nazi sympathizers.
No decent person will do anything but spit on their property.

(19,114 posts)Trump and his closest allies are Nazi sympathizers and White Supremacists, the country needs to respond accordingly.

(34,451 posts)Twitler's "brand." Oh sure, his cultists will always love him, but I doubt they have the where with all to stay at his $750/night Washington boondoggle or buy Ivanka's overpriced ripoff designer shoes. I won't be satisfied until I see that rat bastard frog marched into state prison, but, failing that, it will be awesome to see him reduced to "developing" Trump Taj Mahal Luxury Trailer Park in Bumfuck, AL.

(1,257 posts)I, as a Clevelander have been appalled that his "gala" event was not cancelled long ago.
There is nothing about the current administration that is in any way aligned with the values at Cleveland Clinic.
I was an employee there for a while, and the staff there comes from all over the world.
You don't even think about such things when you are involved working there.
Everyone just gets along, and does their duty to humanity and healing.
I cannot speak for all of the board members there, there are some dubious individuals who only seem to care about money.
To be clear, it is my understanding that Cleveland Clinic is not non-profit, it is not-for-profit, meaning that it can make a profit, and invest those profits in itself.

(23,156 posts)Greed isn't a value and that's the main thrust of his life, pretty much his reason d'etre (sorry no correct accent on this keyboard). Hate, vindictiveness, violence, loathing of everyone not a white male, criminality and fascism, these drivers of his behavior are not values, just the opposite.
He cares nothing for this country, it's history, it's values or even it's very existence. He does love flattery and since the racists love him, he loves them back. He's that simple-minded and needy.

(1,257 posts)Seriously.... I was there for several years.
They got money like you would not believe.
They have investments, and interests world wide.
They have Saudis and UAE as patients, who rent out several floors in the Intercontinental hotel on campus.
I could tell some odd stories.
I am no longer stationed there because I offended fucking Saudis.
( I have absolutely no love for the Saudi regime. I think they are responsible for very much suffering in the world. They are greedy fundamentalists, and uncaring about the rest of us).
It's all about the money baby.
But, they do have amazing doctors, and the best heart specialists you can find.
Sometimes you just gotta' go with the flow, and the greater good.
They do much good for many seriously ill people, who had no hope.
Angioplasty was created there, as are many other significant medical advances.
Life is weird.
