You should immediately think of this:
And you should think of the atrocities committed by the Nazis and in the name of anti-semitism in America. You should be appalled. Still. Forever.
And you don't immediately think of the atrocity of slavery, and the other atrocities committed in the name of "states rights", "heritage", and racism against black people:
You need to ask yourself why.
There is nothing neutral about any of the above symbols of hate. Nothing that should be easily dismissed as not part of the real problem of racism in America. Those symbols are part and parcel to the problem of racism and anti-semitism in America.

EVERYONE needs to know and remember. I still think about a friend of my mom's - a sweet little old lady who for many years owned a boutique where my mother loved to go browse and shop, with a little side of coffee and gossip while she looked at the fashions. Her name was Lydia. She was her extended family's only survivor of the camps. The ONLY one who lived.
I cannot imagine...

(7,530 posts)The experience was nearly overwhelming. I'd had a weirdly morbid fascination with details of the Holocaust since high school...perhaps a natural terrified curiosity that occurs with an existential fear of death and carnage.
That visit cured me of that completely.
At the end, there are two astonishing white chapels with each wall for a specific camp and candles for people to light in remembrance. I remember thinking "I have no specific person to light a candle for." and immediately a voice in my head said, "Light a candle for someone who can't be here."
Thinking about it still turns me into a puddle.

The evil is out there in this country along with a so called President, who claimed there were some really nice people marching with them. These same people never had to experience racism and bigotry and all the evil that goes with it. Trump has to be gone along with Bannon and others who are behind him.

(90,787 posts)Hatred/bigotry isn't new to America but far too many put it out of their minds because it doesn't directly affect them.
Everyone needs to stay aware. Because it's the right thing to do and because even though it appears like it isn't affecting someone, it actually is - it can shape how they think. If you don't see the pain caused, then you can tell yourself there is no pain or it isn't that bad.

(12,693 posts)There are no good nazis, and there are no part time nazis. It is a clear binary condition; you either are a nazi or you are not. You cannot display a Swastika on the weekend and go back to being a regular Joe on Monday. If you do not denounce nazism and its adherents in the strongest possible terms, then you belong in the "are a nazi" group.
I've heard it said--and I've said it myself--"the only good nazi is a dead one". That is not accurate; a dead nazi is only a marginal improvement over a live one.
Nazis have abdicated their membership in the human family and must be purged by any means necessary.

Most of us Dems are pretty peaceful people and want everyone to love & get along. We need to be reminded of the depths that evil can go to, if it is left unchallenged, so we can attempt to stop it fast.

...to enslave and torture the people who built this country, its wealth, its White House!
When will the truth ever be fully told and taught?
The thing that needs to change as step one is to create new plaques for all these monuments to horror---plaques that explain just what the "hero" did, just what "state's rights" means, and just what the Confederate flag stood for and stands for.
We need to insist on a clear confrontation and confession of the great crime against humanity all these monuments signify. The country will never be well until we tell the truth.

(9,865 posts)...square, seen every day, over and over, on the way to work, and school by everyone.
A museum costs money to visit, is hidden away, is not gone to over and over. These plaques need to be daily in everyone's face.
The people who most need the corrected plaques are the very ones who will not go to such a museum.
It could be a project for the 5th grade and up to research and write examples of what the Truth Plaques should say.
They did something like this in Germany after the war. They put plaques around the city of where terrible things were done. Or where a Jew who was taken to a concentration, once lived.

(430 posts)Look on these pictures and try to imagine a loved one - wife, husband, son or daughter, aunt or uncle there in those photos.
Look on these pictures and the thousands like them in archives and heed this:
If these dregs of humanity, these spineless, brainless, unfeeling ego maniacal imbeciles ever gain control, they won't be deterred by any skin color, religion or political beliefs. They will happily and without feelings or conscience add to these photos any who disagree with their views.
Solly Mack,
I've seen worse and I imagine you have also. Maybe more "worse" needs to be exposed to shock the apathetic into action; to understand and realize this coul dhappen to them. The inhabitants in towns of Concentration Camps claim they had no idea what was going on. When the GIs took the camps, many townspeople were made to view the horror the claimed they knew nothing of. Many were conscripted to help remove bodies and clean camps. Maybe that's what's needed today. There but for the grace of...
Glad you started something that should spread and bring attention to what these degenerates really stand for.
