3. There is a Lee County here in Georgia, but not named for Robert E.

It was named for his father. Major-General Henry "Light-Horse Harry" Lee III (January 29, 1756 – March 25, 1818) was an early American Patriot and politician who served as the ninth Governor of Virginia and as the Virginia Representative to the United States Congress. Lee's service during the American Revolution as a cavalry officer in the Continental Army earned him the nickname by which he is best known, "Light-Horse Harry."

There is a Jeff Davis County, too, a name which should be changed but probably never will be.

That's true in Georgia and Illinois, at least. In the Wikipedia articles on Lee Counties in each state with one such, the name's origin is given.

named for Confederate officers. I also learned that 9 counties have changed their names between 1820 and 1877.

Interesting question.
