Corporate media outlets spent Wednesday headlining shocking news: the New York Police Department had found DNA that linked the Occupy Wall Street protests to an unsolved 2004 murder.
NBC New York reported, forensic evidence from the 2004 murder scene of a Juilliard student named Sarah Fox has been linked to the scene of recent Occupy Wall Street subway vandalism. DNA on a CD player found at the crime scene matches DNA found on a chain left by Occupy Wall Street protesters at the Beverly Road subway station in East Flatbush on March 28, 2012.
But now, the corporate media's anti-Occupy movement narrative seems to have hit a major snag.
The New York Times is reporting late Wednesday afternoon:
The DNA match that suggested a possible link between the unsolved killing of a Juilliard student in 2004 and a chain recovered at the site of an Occupy Wall Street protest in March was the result of a laboratory error, a person briefed on the matter said on Wednesday.
The DNA that investigators initially believed was recovered from skin cells on the slain womans portable compact disc player and from the chain found after the March protest came from a laboratory supervisor at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the person said.
The O.C.M.E. tainted the samples and it was the O.C.M.E. supervisors whose DNA was on both, the person said.

(62,325 posts)conveniently a 'chain' with DNA that led back to a tragic murder that just happened to be there!
And if I'm reading this correctly, it was the Chief Medical Examiner's DNA that was on the chain and the evidence from the murder?
A 'lab error'. The question is, why were they checking for DNA related to a murder? Did someone plant that chain there? There are so many unsolved murders in NYC. And this is an old case.
Sounds like the NYPD are up to their old tricks again. Just my humble opinion.

(14,040 posts)why were they checking that chain for DNA?

(62,325 posts)for some reason. But this went further than that. To match DNA taken from a bicycle chain to an 8 yr old murder? Why would they even think of doing that, unless it was pre-planned?
"That's a lot of resources to give to something when there's so many other things in this city that need such desperate resources.
Putting such expensive resources into this, while they apparently don't do it for murders, otherwise they wouldn't have so many unsolved murders in that city, stinks of a smear campaign.

(62,325 posts)false impression. Demands should be made of the media now to give even more time to reporting on this story, to investigating why on earth the NYPD would be matching DNA from a peaceful protest to DNA from an 8-year-old-murder and who ordered this ridiculous misuse of City funds and why?
They get a way with these Rovian tricks because after a few days, we move on. What is needed is to make such a huge issue of this that they cannot ignore it until someone starts answering questions.

(62,325 posts)doesn't have its current place on the World Free Press list, #47, for no reason.
OWS realized this from the beginning. That is why they were glad when the media pretended to ignore the movement, it gave them a chance to get their message out without the expected Media propaganda.
They had their own media, Utube, print media, use of the various forms of Social Media, Twitter, FB etc and began publishing their own newspapers eg, 'The Occupied Wall Street Journal'. This is why the movement was so popular in the beginning, until the MSM realized that they were getting their message out without them, and decided to start 'covering' them. And as expected, the coverage was mostly slanted to make the movement look bad.
I guess we have to be our own media because you cannot influence the Corporate media, they have their agenda and will stick to it imo.

(38,893 posts)There, I've said it. And it's a relief, a thousand tons off of my shoulders. I may as well also be candid about us sabotaging the Hindenburg, and that we're actually the ones who turned that poor man into a newt in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail".
Anyone seen Woody Allen's "Zelig"?

(34,845 posts)They purposely pretended to find a DNA sample on a chain that Occupiers had touched that might have led to a murderer.
And then admitted they were mistaken.
My God, the sheer arrogance of those who control us! It's a body blow from which OWS may never recover!

(34,845 posts)That really damaged the movement, didn't it?
Or are you saying it did NOT damage the movement? Well, then, TPTB aren't very effective, are they? Kind of stupid, really, if you think about it.
Is OWS having such difficulty with stupid people?

(27,670 posts)The effect that negative news in the popular press has on a corporation or an economy. Whether it is justified or not, the investing public's reaction to various headlines can be very dramatic. Many economists believe that negative news headlines make consumers more reluctant to spend money.
"Is OWS having such difficulty with stupid people?"
Oh, yes, most definitely! Well...honestly...we don't really believe that they are genuinely stupid; we're pretty sure they're not, although it often very much appears that they are.
We're almost positive that, in actuality, some organization is paying them to be deceitful and deliberately obtuse, because they know Occupy is eventually going to permanently remove them from power.
