They've played this fiddle many times before.

Pussy grabbing = ok
Raping underage girls on friend's yacht = ok
Making constant reference to women bleeding = ok

But racism? = not ok

The thing to take away from this:Rethugs esteem women's issues lower than racism.

This could be for several reasons. They want to maintain a base with POCs (although that is mostly illusion); they view racism as more of a trigger for violence than women's issues; they do not recognize women's issues as "real" issues.

White people who were racist loved it, and white people who were uncomfortable with racism could easily bury their heads in the sand and play pretend.

Now it's more out in the open. Republicans who don't rebuke tRump quickly and without equivocation are going to get the stench of racism aaaaalllll over them.

(PS, now is the PERFECT time for Dems to turn this into their message: Equality for all ethnicities, religions genders and orientations. Start pushing to end voter suppression for god's sake. Start pushing for sane immigration policies that do not discriminate. Etc.)
