About pardons...

There is speculation that at some point Trump will step down in return for a promise of full pardons for himself and his family but D.A. Schneiderman in New York is also investigating him and he can't be pardoned for state offenses.

There is one complication.

Normally a bank robber in a state case can't be pardoned by the president but if the bank robber also robbed a Post Office, which is a Federal crime, he could be pardoned.

If Trump is pardoned but still prosecuted for money laundering in New York, you can bet his lawyers will try to link as many Federal violations to the crime as they can because then the pardon would cover it and Trump would skate off scott free. It could become a very long involved case if Trump is pardoned for all his Federal crimes.

they can prevent virtually any federal prosecution with a blanket pardon, but they can do absolutely nothing to prevent state prosecutions.

even if the exact same action is a violation of both federal and state laws, they can pardon him for the violations of federal law but not the violations of state laws in your scenario.

only if they cut a broader deal with governors of the relevant states to pardon him for violations of those states' laws as well could he get off completely free.

...if he gets pardoned, no state prosecutor will come after him.

Why? Then you get this scenario; New York issues a warrant for Trump...who is in Florida. Would Florida be willing to extradite Trump to New York? If so, State Police come knocking on Mar-a-Lago...but stopped by the Secret Service. Then what?

State Police come knocking on Trump Tower in New York to serve arrest warrants...only to be blocked by the Secret Service who are tasked in protecting him. So then what?

In the former example, Florida or for that manner, any state, won't do jack.

In the latter, it gets very dicey. And a similar situation actually occurred. After President Kennedy was assassinated and pronounced dead, the Secret Service started to move the body of the President out of the hospital to fly him to Washington...when they were then stopped by police who said that this was now an active murder investigation and the deceased President is now evidence. So there was stand off... Now the official story is they relented and let them through, I'm going to go out on a limb and say someone told them to stand down.

He gets a federal pardon, state prosecutors will wash their hands of this mess.

He has assets in these states, which puts a more difficult wrinkle on it. It's not just a matter of potential jail time. He faces huge fines and penalties and maybe even asset forfeiture.

I don't think Schneiderman would let him off the hook just because he's no longer president, federal pardon or otherwise.

Its a good bet that his profitable assets are under shell companies....in alien countries. Liquid assets, probably under a shell companies that lists Bitcoin or a set up similar as its assets...only that Bitcoin/asset was sold in Azerbaijan, Taiwan, Sealand, etc. but on the books, still worth xyz amount. And now is sitting is some vault in another country, in a safe deposit box that doesn't have an asset forfeiture agreement with the US....going to guess China since he bitches and moans about them the most.

He still has "assets" here in the US...but I can easily see their value also showing up on the liabilities section of the balance sheet...and the equity shows up as zero.

And, as you know, was settled. The OP claimed there was a money laundering investigation going on. Not a bit of evidence of an investigation.

My family was discussing this at a farewell dinner tonight. We all want this done thoroughly and for everyone to get full jail time and forfeit their assets but this sounds like it will take a very long time. Can the states do this before Mueller has completed his investigation? How many different lawyers are getting ready with separate cases in different states as I write this? What order are they going to prosecute him in?
