And Now for Something Completely Different - Military Exercises in South Korea

http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/20/asia/north-korea-south-korea-us-military-drills/index.html

(CNN)North Korea warned Sunday that the upcoming US-South Korea military exercises are "reckless behavior driving the situation into the uncontrollable phase of a nuclear war."

Pyongyang also declared that its army can target the United States anytime, and neither Guam, Hawaii nor the US mainland can "dodge the merciless strike."

The messages in Rodong Sinmun, the official government newspaper, come a day before the US starts the Ulchi Freedom Guardian military exercises with South Korea.

Tensions between the US and North Korea have grown in recent weeks.

I have to wonder a little why these joint exercises were not postponed until there was some sort of stability established. As we move into next week, things may become somewhat tense. This may overshadow some other news that has been distracting us, I think.

That could cost huge numbers of lives. It just seems to me that holding these exercises is putting a huge amount of risk from the crazy little shithead, Kim Jong Un.

I'm not big on waving weapons around, frankly. I'm just not into it.

the Korean War. That is why we still have thousands of troops, arms and aircraft stationed there. Kim's threats against the United States are pipe dreams, but his threats against South Korea are real and are backed up by military forces and weapons stationed just north of the DMZ.

The reality is that North Korea can do very little to harm the United States, but can create utter destruction in Seoul, which is located just south of the border between the two nations. I encourage you to do a little more research on this ongoing conflict, so you'll better understand what the actual stakes are.
