He never attended school there, but studied online. Last year, he went to his commencement ceremony after completing the requirements for a degree. He was very proud of that.

I made no comment about it, though. Nor shall I. Ever. His politics reflect the source of his diploma. We communicate only about family matters and I have hidden his posts on Facebook.

It's a pity, really.

One of the most staunchly anti-Castro congressmembers from Florida, Mario Diaz-Balart, is Fidel Castro's nephew.

(Note...no I'm NOT likening you to Fidel with that comparison...seemed important to clarify that).

relationships. Politics is never an acceptable topic of conversation at our family gatherings. We have plenty of topics to discuss without delving into politics or religion. It's a rule we all accept and follow.

Since Facebook is an extension of that, the rule applies to that venue as well, at least for me. So, I have simply hidden that particular member of the family and do not see his postings, except when he replies in some other conversation. Since he has not hidden me, he does see my postings, which are virtually never about politics. Almost never, anyhow.
