Tune in to CNN's special live coverage of President Donald Trump's address at 9 p.m.
Trump's address, scheduled for 9 p.m. ET Monday at Fort Myer in Arlington, Virginia, comes as Trump and Secretary of Defense James Mattis have said a decision has been made on a new US strategy in Afghanistan.
Earlier Sunday, Mattis confirmed a decision has been made, but declined to offer details about the decision, saying Trump would choose when to make the announcement.
"He wants to be the one to announce it to the American people," Mattis said on Sunday, later adding, "He now needs the weekend to collect his thoughts on how he's going to explain it to the American people."

(17,984 posts)He'd tell Donny what prolonged war in Afghanistan is really like. I just can't believe that Mattis (or anyone with military background) would ignore the history of military engagement in Afghanistan and give the go ahead to tRump.

(34,661 posts)Interesting thing is,Putin is doing money and material support to the Taliban. This will get interesting real quick. First off,the One Trillion Dollar Rare Earth mining in China owned and operated and understand that has been a bone of contention for our Military. We have to protect these Entities and maintain the roads as well.
Putin wants the off shore Oil and used of I believe it is Exxon's pipeline, which is why we are still there.

(2,434 posts)Americans, I doubt he will get much of an audience. What on earth could merit a prime time presser? Nuclear? Complete withdrawal? Sending in 100,000 additional troops? Does he think any of those options will be popular? Is he so itching for a war he has no choice but to ramp up Afghanistan because all the others haven't worked? All I can think of is pitiful, pathetic and transparent.
