But she was right, it just was not the biggest spike- but it is a more shocking one to my eyes.

Jim Crow laws were enacted right after reconstruction - around 1870 and precede the memorial building. The first spike for memorials (1890-1910) were when the majority of veterans were dying off, apx .30-50 years later and continued until the deaths of their children in the 1920s.

The spike in the 1960's was ostensibly a 100 year remembrance, but many were also fueled by pro-segregation reactions.
