(26,219 posts)His family name will be mud internationally for exposing said hubris (and for what "R-Money" now means to people when they hear it), but he bought a primary for the hell of it because it was his "turn" and he needed to show that it could be done with the help of SCOTUS and Citizen's United.
My hat is off to him.

(35,320 posts)Any Romney, apart from maybe the Romney who signed the Declaration of Independence for Delaware.
Have known really nice (R), some of whom bent over backwards to help the poor and sick, others of whom have knocked themselves out on behalf of their students.
who eats up Faux nooz whole, and somehow also volunteers for a super liberal church that feeds the hungry and finds transitional housing for the homeless.
A real Christian.
She is no brainiac but she has a good heart and she is very loyal.

(22,057 posts)He and his wife are Catholic and pretty conservative and know that my partner and I are solid liberal Democrats. We kid each other about things but there is a genuine connection. Did I mention he's a bank manager? What can I say-if people respect me and treat me well then I tend to do the same.
As to Mitt Rmoney, his diction is excellent!

(51,907 posts)There is a retired Republican state legislator in PA who is on the board of the single payer health care group there. Pete McCloskey was decent back in the day. Nixon signed OSHA and EPA into law. Eisenhower saw the virtue of a 90% top tax rate and warned against the military industrial complex.

(11,833 posts)once a week at a homeless shelter. She doesn't talk publicly about it, so that's pretty cool. On politics, we sometimes agree to disagree. I'm slowly trying to get her to vote for Obama. I think this next election she just might. She knows I would never vote for Romney or any current republican. She doesn't sweat me on that any more. She's started understanding my political views. Without me conceding any moral, political or emotional ground. We keep it friendly. She's my stepmother.

(10,893 posts)I'm not crazy about Willard at all. But one positive thing I can say about him is that at least he doesn't have a drinking problem like how Bush 2 had, and he's no drug addict like Limbaugh. He also had the decency to speak out once against the Trayvon murder, and he was nice enough to at least appear at the NAACP convention.
I don't know any Republicans personally. But I do think that the tactics the party uses in gaining power are clever. Whether anyone here thinks it's ethical or not, they know how to do all of the little things in order to defeat the opposition whether it's those voter ID laws subtly targeted at Democratic-leaning electorates, spending millions in Congressional races in order to block a president from the opposite party, the ways they word certain phrases ("freedom of religion", "class warfare", etc.), and being able to monopolize AM radio and much of the media. And their voters don't sit out elections nearly as often as Democrats do. They turn out for every election, whether it's presidential or midterm.
