Today in South Carolina, a man named Russell Walker filed a lawsuit saying that Confederate flags need to be returned to the courtroom. Out front, he explained to reporters that:

I don’t believe it’s a symbol of slavery. That’s my personal view but how they feel is their business. It would be ludicrous for me to tell you how they feel. Hey, I go down the street and I see Martin Luther Coon, I mean, I shouldn’t have said that, Martin Luther King. I mean, should I rip the signs down?

Then again, our region started the whole bathroom bill process with a council ordinance that I agreed with, but the most recent Governor (multi-term mayor of the said city, Pat McCrory) had to bring it statewide, and you all know the rest.

At least the most recent SC Governor, current UN Ambassador, Nikki Haley, is a few things; politically stupid isn't one of them (she kinda didn't have a choice to leave her post, and was term-limited anyway).
