as someone who was fortunate enough to have seen the eclipse in totality, and is an astronomy teacher I feel I should point out that the moon actually crossed the sun from right to left. I know this sounds petty, but as a science teacher, I felt that it should be stated.
Thanks everyone.

(1,555 posts)however, the pin hole projector was an inverted vision of the actual eclipse. the moon actually moved from the right to left.

(1,555 posts)It was reversed, or mirrored (reflection in geometry). The Moon began to cross the Sun from the upper right corner, so the pin-hole would have shown it crossing from the upper left; a mirrored vision. An inverted vision would have shown it crossing from the lower left.
I could be incorrect, but I believe a lense would be required for an actual inverted image.

(36,466 posts)I seem to remember the Questar I was using back in the seventies produced a reversed image, and I simply flipped the film in the darkroom to get the proper orientation. Boy, that was a long time ago, and I can't remember shit these days.

(1,555 posts)which is why binoculars have multiple lenses and prisms to flip the image back
Its more of a political statement than a astronomical
