Nothing ever seems to hurt the GOP no matter how much damage they do. Ever since Reagan the GOP has damaged and diminished this country in countless ways. Yet they still get voted in. How do you explain all the political control they have now in the cities, the states and federal government.
They trash women incessantly yet 53% of the women vote for them. They erode the safety net cutting food stamps, welfare, unemployment insurance. They damage the environment with deregulation. Millions of homes foreclosed on in the recession with the banks actually acting as criminals and just taking property. Massive student loan debt fostered by GOP policy decisions. We get lied into wars by Bush & company. Thousands are killed. Then they obstruct and trash Obama. They foster and instigate more hatred, racism, misogyny, bigotry et al. They cause misery and death with their opposition to health care. And it goes on and on.
Yet Bush, Cheney, Rusfeld, and their ilk go on with their lives unscathed and even ond up richer than ever for their criminal activities.
Now we have a maniacal racist bigoted nut in the White House with is equally racist bigoted hateful and destructive Cabinet. And we have a murderous racist GOP Congressional element in charge. They have their filet mignon, fancy houses, yachts and huge bank accounts. Meanwhile Americans are struggling an some people probably even eating dog food.
So I do not get it that we cannot get rid of them. That it will be very difficult if not impossible to beat them in 2018 gif you listen to the pundits.
For all the GOP has done to the citizens of this country they are still very viable. Are we really THAT STUPID AS A COUNTRY?.

(24,396 posts)they are god's own party.
They hear it from their pulpits every Sunday - libruls are evil, god loves Republicans. The group ethos reinforces what they hear from the clergy, from Faux News...and from the MSM when they get on, say, their anti-Hillary soapboxes.
The moderate god botherers split down the middle, which means the rabid evangelical vote is enough to sway many elections.

(11,088 posts)"Maybe just a little less evil, but we will keep most of the evil because evil is apparently popular with people." If the people had something genuinely good to vote for, I guarantee they would. Until then they seem to prefer absolute evil over a wispy washy mix of something else. The American people might not be the most critical thinkers, but "stupid" wouldn't be a word I would describe them.

(21,754 posts)I have wondered about the same thing over and over. It is maniacal the way people vote for Republicans and we can't get our people out to vote at all half the time no matter how dire the consequences.
WTF America?
Quit just paying lip service and PROVE that you love your country.
